The Audi A8 is a luxury sedan produced by a German developer since 1994. Today, the fourth generation model is presented on the market, the debut of which took place in mid-2017 at the Barcelona Auto Show.
A distinctive feature of the sedan is the body, which is more than half of aluminum, which makes it possible to almost completely eliminate the car’s corrosion. With the change of generations, the developer completely revised the technical capabilities of a premium car, making the car even more comfortable and safe.
The 2021 Audi A8 is sold in Russia in six different versions, the price of which starts at 6,226,000 rubles. One of four available engines is installed under the hood of the sedan, for which an optional hybrid installation is required. The rivals of this model are the BMW 7-Series, as well as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

Despite the fact that the change of generations did not lead to the appearance of a new sedan body, its available configurations and specifications were completely revised by the manufacturer.

Specifications
As for the technical capabilities of the sedan, they are determined by one of four engines available for equipping:
• hybrid diesel engine with a volume of 3 liters. Its power indicator is 249 «horses», and the torque is 600 N * m. This installation option will be the most economical. Diesel fuel consumption is declared at 6.6 liters. The sedan will accelerate to 100 km / h in this variation most slowly, “only” in 6.5 seconds;
• turbo engine for 340 horsepower with a volume of 3 liters and a maximum torque of 500 N * m. Thanks to the hybrid installation, the sedan consumes about 7.7 liters of gasoline. The car can reach a speed of 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds;
• 4-liter hybrid turbo engine, the efficiency of which is 460 «horses», and the torque is 660 N * m. For him, the consumption level is 9.9 liters, and acceleration to «hundreds» is achieved in 5.6 seconds;
• the most powerful 571-horsepower hybrid petrol engine with a volume of 4 liters and a maximum torque of 800 N * m. In this version, the sedan consumes 13.1 liters of gasoline and accelerates to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds.
All versions of the 2021 Audi A8 are equipped with an all-wheel drive system and an 8-speed «automatic». The maximum with which a German sedan can move is 250 km / h.
The design of the sedan consists mainly of aluminum, thanks to which it is practically not afraid of corrosion. Both car suspensions are independent and consist of multi-link structures with lateral anti-roll bars.
In addition, it should be noted that the sedan received an electromechanical suspension, in which separate electric motors are installed for each wheel. This solution allows you to more effectively adjust the settings and adapt the car to various road surface options.
The braking system consists of ventilated disc brakes and an electronic parking brake. Also, the car uses a system for recovering energy generated at the time of braking.

Handling and off-road performance
The sedan’s handling is close to ideal. The model is so confidently holding a straight line and at speed it enters sharp turns without even a hint of any roll, which is even somewhat surprising.
The steering wheel is moderately light and provides good feedback. Thanks to the presence of an assistant that keeps the car in the occupied lane in any road conditions, driving safety is at the highest level.
Sedans, especially when they belong to the executive class, have never been able to boast of any serious off-road capabilities. The 2021 Audi A8 is no exception.
The level of the car’s ground clearance, despite the presence of an all-wheel drive system, as well as built-in motion assistants, does not allow counting on successful overcoming of any serious off-road.
Of course, small curbs, bumps, «speed bumps» and even light off-road — all this will not be a significant problem for the German model. At the same time, swampy terrain, sandy soil and deep mud ruts are not the best road surface to drive your premium car.
Maintenance costs
Since the 2021 Audi A8 is a luxury sedan, the costs associated with its maintenance will be quite serious. First of all, the owner of the German model will have to pay a very impressive amount in luxury tax. Depending on the variation of the car, the amount of the premium model ownership fee will be 100-140 thousand rubles annually.
The amount for hull insurance, which the owner of a premium model can issue, also looks impressive. The amount of the annual payment can exceed 500 thousand rubles when it comes to insuring the most expensive car variation.
Providing a sedan with fuel will cost the car owner 55-75 thousand rubles a year, and issuing an OSAGO policy will cost 10-11 thousand. According to the manufacturer’s recommendations, routine maintenance should be carried out every 15 thousand kilometers traveled, and the cost of the work performed is 15-55 thousand rubles.
Dynamic performance and fuel consumption
Despite the fact that the sedan is a model of the executive class, it has no problems with dynamics. The car, even in the variation with the least efficient engine, is capable of accelerating to a speed of 100 km / h, which many crossovers and liftbacks can envy.
In the case of the most powerful engine, the Audi A8 accelerates to 100 km / h in 4.6 seconds. Thanks to such high-speed capabilities, this model is able to perfectly maneuver both in city conditions and on the highway.
The lowest fuel consumption indicator is determined for a diesel power unit, and is 6.6 liters of diesel fuel. But gasoline engines consume more. Moreover, the most powerful engine will «eat» at least 13 liters of gasoline per 100 km of distance traveled.
Design
The exterior of the Audi sedan is made in the standard version, which corresponds to the design style of other models of the German automaker. The front section stands out thanks to the very large radiator grille with horizontal louvres.
Pointed headlights add a predatory, sporty touch to the sedan. From the side, the Audi A8 looks like any premium sedan — an elongated body with regular rounded shapes and classic body elements.
The rear of the model stands out thanks to the lanterns, which are interconnected by means of an LED insert, as well as the unusual exhaust system outputs.
The interior decoration of the cabin is quite simple, but very ergonomic, thanks to the installation of three touchscreen displays on the center console and in the armrest.
With their help, the manufacturer can customize almost all the functionality of the sedan. As physical control elements, one can note a miniature transmission selector, as well as a washer for selecting vehicle driving modes.
The dashboard of the executive sedan is also represented by a large digital display on which the driver can display almost all possible information about the car.
The steering wheel of the 2021 Audi A8 is very comfortable and allows you to control many of the sedan’s capabilities. The chairs are very comfortable, have a significant number of adjustments and additional options, and are also equipped with powerful lateral support.
