BMW M240i xDrive 2022. The new BMW branding is not necessarily vertical nostrils. Before us is an alternative design option, and this time the creators experimented not with the nostrils, but with the shape of the lighting equipment (both front and rear) and bumpers.

However, in the title photo there is a car with an M-body kit, and the basic version (the white car in the pictures) is a little quieter.

This is the new BMW Coupé of the second series. And, as stated, in the form of headlights, the designers tried to beat the look of the legendary two-door BMW 1602 of the sixties.

Did it work out? At the same time, LED headlights are already «in the base», and matrix optics are offered for an extra charge.

The nostrils also have a twist: their vertical slats can be closed like blinds, if the electronics considers that the cooling system is operating normally and its efficiency is sufficient.

The new coupe has nothing to do with the four-door Gran Coupe of the second series. If the sedan of the F44 family is built on a front-wheel drive platform UKL2 with a transverse engine arrangement, but for the mischievous G42 coupe, the classic layout with almost perfect axle weight distribution is preserved!

True, for the sake of unification and economy, the «two» was transferred to the older, fourth series chassis, which, although shortened, remained rather large.

Therefore, the junior coupe is not so small now.

The length of the «two» has grown by 105 mm at once in comparison with its predecessor (up to 4537 mm).

The width has increased by 64 mm (1838 mm), and the wheelbase is increased by 51 mm (2741 mm). Is that the height is now less by 28 mm (1390 mm).

But all the same, the dimensions of the new «two» are comparable to the coupe of the third series of the E90 generation!

Together with the dimensions, the track has also grown — in the basic version it is 54 mm in front and 31 mm in the rear.

The torsional rigidity of the body has increased by 12%, and the developers have also worked hard on aerodynamics: the lift on the front axle has been halved.

The salon has become more spacious, but decorated without revelations. Like other modern BMWs, there is a compact climate control unit (it is now three-zone already in the basic configuration) and a push-button outdoor light control unit.

The initial configuration is an 8.8-inch OS7 analogue and media system. For a surcharge — virtual devices (12.3 inches) and a multimedia display increased to 10.25 inches, and now you can order a projection screen.

Front sports seats are standard equipment. The back row is strictly two-seater, but the folding back is divided in a 40:20:40 ratio.

The optional panoramic roof area has been increased by 20%. The trunk volume has not changed (390 liters), but the loading height has been reduced by 35 mm.

So far, only four modifications have been announced, and all are equipped with an eight-speed «automatic»: there is no manual transmission.

The initial BMW 220i coupe has a 2.0 petrol turbo four (184 hp), and in the BMW 230i version this engine is boosted to 245 hp.

There is also a diesel version of the BMW 220d (2.0 l, 190 hp) with a 48-volt starter-generator: the motor produces 11 hp, works as part of a start-stop system and helps in the first seconds of acceleration.

All four-cylinder «twos» have only rear-wheel drive so far. Standard suspension — with amplitude-dependent dampers, optional M-chassis — with adaptive electronic dampers.

At the top of the range is the BMW M240i xDrive all-wheel drive coupe with in-line six-cylinder engine.

The three-liter unit produces 374 hp. and 500 Nm — 34 forces more than the previous model, although the torque is the same.

Such a two-door has a rear differential lock (as an option, it is also available for the BMW 230i), and acceleration to 100 km / h takes 4.3 seconds versus 4.4 seconds for the previous model.

The maximum speed is traditionally limited to 250 km / h.

Later, the range of modifications will be expanded, although a convertible for a new second series is no longer planned.

And it is also curious that the new “two” G42 will be produced not in Germany, as the outgoing generation, but in Mexico — at the BMW plant in San Luis Potosi, which opened in 2019 and so far produces only third-series sedans for the American market.

The start of sales of the new coupe of the second series is scheduled for early 2022.

UPDATE: There will be a «two» in Russia, but only in two modifications, and the prices have already been announced.

A BMW 220d with rear-wheel drive costs from 3 million 370 thousand rubles, and an all-wheel drive coupe BMW M240i xDrive — from 4 million 590 thousand rubles.
