BMW M3 (2020-2021)

The sixth incarnation of the BMW M3.

The BMW M3 is a rear- or four-wheel drive premium mid-size sedan (aka “D-segment” by European standards) that combines comfort and safety for everyday city traffic with a truly sporty character. It is addressed, first of all, to purposeful and successful people who want to get a truly «driver» car, suitable for everyday use.

«Charged» four-door BMW M3 of the sixth generation with the in-house code «G80» debuted on September 23, 2020 in during the virtual presentation, while the premiere of the car was supposed to take place back in 2019, but in the end, the Bavarian engineers took more time to develop it.

Externally, the «sixth» BMW M3 can capture not only the corporate design with huge «nostrils» of the radiator grille, but also all the traditional M-attributes — an aggressive body kit with large air intakes, widened wheel arches, a developed rear diffuser with two large-caliber «double-barreled» exhaust pipes, special mirror housings and spoiler on the trunk lid.

Size and weight

The sports sedan is 4794 mm long, 1903 mm wide, and 1433 mm high. The center-to-center distance is 2857 mm for the car, and its ground clearance is 120 mm. The curb weight of the three-volume tank varies from 1705 to 1730 kg, depending on the version.

Interior

Inside, the BMW M3 of the sixth generation meets its inhabitants with a «thoroughbred» design, well-thought-out ergonomics and high-class materials of finishing, and its «charged» essence is given by a sports steering wheel with M Mode keys, a red engine start button and bucket seats with a pronounced side profile.

The sports sedan has a five-seater salon, but only four people can sit here with maximum comfort. In addition to this, the car has no problems with practicality — its trunk in its usual form is able to accommodate 480 liters of luggage.

Specifications

Under the hood of the «sixth» BMW M3 is an in-line gasoline unit S58 with a working volume of 3.0 liters with two turbochargers, direct fuel injection, phase shifters at the inlet and outlet and a 24-valve timing:

on the basic version, it generates 480 horsepower at 6250 rpm and 550 Nm of torque at 2650-6130 rpm;

and on the Competition modification — 510 hp. at 6250 rpm and 650 Nm of peak thrust at 2750-5500 rpm.

By default, the sports sedan is equipped with a 6-speed «mechanics» and a rear-wheel drive transmission, but the «top-end» Competition version is equipped with an 8-band «automatic» M Steptronic and rear or all-wheel drive (in the second case — with a multi-disc clutch for connecting the front wheels and a full drift mode).

Options and prices

Sales of the sixth generation BMW M3 in the Russian market should begin in the spring of 2021, however, the prices for the car are promised to be announced in the near future, and only sports sedans in the «top» version of the Competition with an all-wheel drive transmission will most likely get to our country.

As for the equipment, already in the «base» the three-volume has: front and side airbags, fully LED optics, adaptive suspension, dual-zone climate control, a media center with a 10.25-inch screen, a virtual instrument cluster, adaptive cruise control, a premium audio system and other equipment.
