BMW officially unveils BMW M4 GT3.

The well-known German manufacturer BMW has taken the covers off its new GT3 class car, which will debut in 2022 — the «BMW M4 GT3».

The car was unveiled in factory livery ahead of the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring, where the Bavarian brand must defend its 2020 crown.

The new BMW M4 GT3 is largely based on the BMW M4 Competition road car with a three-liter twin-turbo V6 V6 engine capable of producing up to 590 horsepower.

The novelty is slightly longer than the current BMW M6 GT3 by 5020 mm and, as a result, has a slightly longer wheelbase — 2917 mm.

BMW says that the development of the car focused on three areas of improvement over its predecessor, namely handling, economy and operation.

The manufacturer claims that the car has become more accessible to amateur riders in terms of handling and equipment, and also claims that it is easier to handle the tires and offers greater cornering stability.

«The development of the BMW M4 GT3 is now on the home stretch and the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is the perfect place to present a car in its BMW M Motorsport design and thus mark the final stage of preparation before the first races.» — said Markus Flush, CEO of BMW M GmbH.

“The new BMW M4 Competition provides the ideal basis for the BMW M4 GT3, whose engine has been developed from the outset for use on the racetrack.

This underlines that the development of road and racing cars at BMW M GmbH always goes hand in hand.

BMW announces that the «BMW M4 GT3» will take part in its first official race on June 26, where it will take part in the fourth round of the Nürburgring endurance series.

It is currently unclear who will pilot the car, although several factory pilots have participated in the development, including Augusto Farfus and Philip Eng.

The first race for the BMW M4 GT3 will most likely be in the SP-X NLS class, which is intended for non-homologated vehicles.

After the race, the car will undergo additional tests in preparation for its debut season in 2022.

Development of a replacement for the «BMW M6 GT3» model began in early 2020, and in July of the same year it was fully deployed.

A notable fact about the «BMW M4 GT3» is that the steering wheel for this model was developed in partnership with simulator equipment manufacturer Fanatec.

According to BMW, the steering wheel for the «BMW M4 GT3» is «the first in the world», which can be used without modifications in a real race car as well as in a simulator.

In 2021, tests intensified: the car passed 14,000 test kilometers on the Spanish tracks Almeria and Monteblanco, as well as at the Nurburgring.

After additional tests, the car will be available to customers at the start of the 2022 season, where it will compete in various series based on GT3 class cars around the world.
