Chevrolet Corvette Stingray C 8 2022. New Corvette comes to Europe: less power, higher prices.

The eighth generation Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, introduced two years ago, has reached Europe.

The Launch Edition will be presented to the first customers there recently.

And at the same time, the reception of orders for Corvettes in «regular» versions is opened and technical characteristics are disclosed.

By the way, now it is the only Chevrolet model on the European market, and sales are handled by Cadillac dealers.

And in the new generation Corvette got the factory version with the right wheel for the first time in its history, so it becomes «its own» in Great Britain now, though the cars of the former generations were sold here with the left hand drive.

In recent years, sales of Corvettes on the European market were at the level of 600-800 units per year, but now the British can boost demand.

Despite the production disruptions and the general worrisome atmosphere, the Corvette C8 sold so briskly in 2020 that it literally soared to the top of the class.

And for now, buyers can only choose a body type. But starting this year, the family will begin to expand, and we’ll see four new versions in the next couple of years.

And there’s insider information about them from former Australian Wheels Magazine editor-in-chief and current Motor Trend staffer Angus McKenzie.

According to him, the Corvette Z06, whose debut is scheduled for this year, will get a V8 5.5 atmo with a flat crankshaft and the ability to spin up to 9,000 rpm. The numbers are 626 hp and 651 N-m.

The 6.2-liter lower-shaft atmospheric V8 is adapted to Euro-6d economy standards and equipped with a particulate filter.

That’s why its output is reduced: 482 hp and 613 Nm, while the Corvette with the Z51 package for America produces 502 hp and 637 Nm.

And yet the supercar with the eight-speed preselective «robot» can accelerate to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and the maximum speed — 296 km/h.

In Germany, the new Chevrolet Corvette costs from 86900 euros, and for the roadster you have to pay at least 93400 euros.

Cars in Launch Edition version are even more expensive: from 99,000 euros. For example, in native America, the base Corvette will cost $6,200, and a coupe with 2LT and Z51 packages will cost $7,540.

And yet the mid-engine Corvette in Europe was cheaper than the Porsche 911, which even in its initial version is priced at 108,000 euros. Alas, the Russian market is not in the export plans this time.
