Citroen C4 2021: Citroen’s new fashionable cross-hatch.
Citroen has completely declassified the new Citroen C4 2019-2020 hatchback. The model will replace the previous generation five-door, which debuted back in 2011 and left the market in 2018 due to falling sales.

At the same time, the new car has little in common with its predecessor, because it has a fresh platform, modern design with wide personalization options, a spacious interior and advanced electronic equipment.

And in general, the novelty is built in the cross-hatchback format, which is eloquently indicated by the characteristic silhouette and the presence of obligatory plastic protection along the lower perimeter of the body.

All these features should play into the hands of the new Citroen model, as it will have to compete with the mega-popular five-door C-class Volkswagen Golf and Ford Focus.

Citroen C4 will lure customers away from them in the fall of 2020, when the sales of the novelty will officially start. The hatchback will be offered to customers not only with traditional gasoline and diesel engines, but also with an electric power plant (variant e-C4).

Options and prices will be announced later. It is important for us that the car is likely to appear in Russia.

Exterior and dimensions

The new Citroen C4 is built on an extended version of the CMP bogie, which means it is a relative of the 2008 Peugeot, Opel Corsa and Opel Mokka models. In terms of dimensions, the newcomer fits perfectly into the European C + class.

The declared length is 4360 mm, width — 1800 mm, height — 1525 mm. The distance between the axles is 2670 mm, the ground clearance is 156 mm.
The main feature of the body layout of the 2021 Citroen C4 is the cross-coupe-style roof dome. The hatchback is also distinguished by the original design of the exterior details, which reflects the brand’s new design philosophy.

The striking and distinctive front end is adorned with V-shaped head optics linked by chrome stripes with the company logo in the middle. The bumper, sewn in black plastic, has stylish decorative inserts on the sides that serve as a frame for compact fog lamps.

When drawing the stern of the new «four», the developers were inspired by the 2004 C4 Coupe. It inherits a non-standard glazing configuration with an organically built-in spoiler.

The graphics of the taillights echo those of the front optics. In profile, the hatchback looks assertive and dynamic. Muscle sidewalls and spaced wheels create a solid feel.

Buyers will surely appreciate the abundance of options for the exterior of the car. There are 31 finishing schemes in total.

Combinations are formed by combining a basic body color (available in Polar White, Obsidian Black, Steel Gray, Platinum Gray, Elixir Red, Caramel Brown, Iceland Blue) and a Design Package (Glossy Black, Metallic Sand, Textured Gray, Anodised Deep Red available) and Anodised Blue).

The color of the inserts in the front bumper and the Airbump liners on the sills depends on the chosen decor package. Plus, a wide range of rims from 16 to 18 inches is prepared for this.

Original solutions in the interior

When designing the interior, the emphasis was placed on comfort and a pleasant visual experience. Soft finishing materials have been used, six design schemes have been developed, contour LED lighting has been introduced, and many compartments for storing items are provided.

There was also a place for rare options like the Smart Pad Support built into the front panel for gadgets.

The very same list of equipment relying on the new Citroen C4 is impressive. There are all kinds of heating (steering wheel, windshield, seats in both rows), dual-zone climate control, a massager for the front seats, a digital dashboard, a color head-up display, an electric panoramic sunroof, all-round cameras, advanced Arkamys acoustics.

The standard media center is equipped with a 10-inch touchscreen display, voice recognition, interfaces for “mirroring” the screen of smartphones and the latest generation of 3D navigation with access to the TomTom Traffic service. Also available is wireless charging and four USB ports (two at the front and two at the back).

The set of electronic assistants includes up to twenty assistants. Among them are adaptive cruise control, automatic braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, driver monitoring, control of lane markings, recognition of road signs, etc.

Well, the most sophisticated active safety system is the Highway Driver Assist autopilot of the second level. He can delegate control of the car when driving on the highway, however, the driver will still have to keep his hands on the steering wheel and monitor the traffic situation.

The advantages of the hatchback include a large supply of space for passengers. At the rear, the width of the passenger compartment is 1,380 mm at the shoulders and 1,440 mm at the elbows. The knees get a record 198 mm for the segment.

The basic volume of the trunk of the car is 380 liters, the maximum is 1250 liters. The cargo compartment has hooks for hanging bags and an additional compartment in the underground. The two-position floor can be locked in a tilt position for easy loading.

The new five-door Citroen will go on sale with the following engines:

• 1.2 PureTech 100 HP;
• 1.2 PureTech 130 HP;
• 1.2 PureTech 155 HP;
• 1.5 BlueHDi 110 HP;
• 1.5 BlueHDi 130 HP

«Younger» engines are combined with a 6-speed manual transmission, «senior» — with an 8-speed «automatic» Aisin. The drive for all versions without alternatives is front, the rear suspension is semi-dependent.

The electric modification Citroen ë-C4 is equipped with a 136 hp engine. and 260 Nm, as well as a traction battery with a capacity of 50 kWh (installed under the floor).

Charging the battery from a special 100 kW terminal takes 30 minutes, from a wall device — from five to seven and a half hours, from a household outlet — at least 15 hours.

A fully charged battery provides a range of approximately 350 km (WLTP cycle). The electric Citroen C4 accelerates to 100 km / h in 9.7 seconds, while the top speed of the model is limited to 150 km / h.
