Electric hatchback Honda e 2021. It is fashionable to produce electric cars now, plus there are potential buyers. Honda presented its new electric car Honda e 2021 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2019.

Prior to that, the car was shown as a concept, and official sales in the markets of Europe and Japan began in 2020. At a price, the car starts at 29,500 euros, and the maximum version is 3,000 more expensive.

In Russia, the car is unlikely to appear, because there are few potential buyers, plus Honda’s sales in Russia are weak. Although, if we consider Honda motorcycles, then here it is in the top 10 most popular manufacturers.

Cute looks as a philosophy

The design is based on the ideology of «kawaii», which means «cute». Yes, the hatchback looks really cute. It is noteworthy that the car differs from the concept minimally and most of the futuristic solutions were left here.

The retro styling of the Honda e is clearly visible at the front with its round headlights and simple shapes. Minimalism is everywhere, there is no radiator grill, not even decorative.

At the bottom of the bumper, small fog lights are barely visible. Yes, the headlights are now LED, and not like in the retro days of 30 years ago.

From the side, minimalism continues, with slightly swollen arches, and then flat forms. The fashionable retractable handles have been introduced and the tailgate handle is located in the pillar.

Cameras have been introduced instead of rear-view mirrors, and if they are optional in the Audi e-tron, and there are classic mirrors in the base, then there are always cameras. According to the manufacturer, such cameras improve vehicle aerodynamics by 3.8%.

The wheels are initially 16-inch, and the maximum configuration is 17-inch. The basic configuration of the Honda e 2021 comes with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires. It’s nice, but why such a rubber for the urban B-class hatchback is unclear.

Behind exactly the same round lights on a black insert. The bumper is again similar to the front one, especially the lower reflectors in the form of PTF.

The rear window is large, as is the glazing of the car itself, which improves visibility. By the way, frameless doors have been preserved from the concept.

Electric hatchback Honda e 2021. Salon — one big screen

If you don’t like the design, then the interior will definitely surprise you. The most important thing is the screens on the full width of the dashboard.

In front of the driver is an electronic 8.8-inch dashboard. In the middle and on the passenger side there are two 12.3-inch screens of the Honda CONNECT multimedia system.

The Honda e displays don’t end there, there are two more screens for cameras (mirrors). They have automatic brightness control and two modes of operation: normal and widescreen.

Compared to the usual, the blind zone has been reduced by 10 and 50%, respectively.

Each passenger has access to HDMI connectors to transfer the image from the smartphone to any of the screens. You can even run games.

Of the screens, there is also a central rear-view mirror, which operates in two modes. This is good, because you are left with a choice, it will be more convenient for someone to use an analog salon mirror.

There is nothing more interesting, the seats are ordinary fabric, the back is a simple maximally flat sofa. The driver has a 2-spoke multi-steering wheel with physical buttons.

On the tunnel control buttons «checkpoint». On the center console, the climate control unit is again on the physical buttons.

The car is still small, so the trunk is small, only 171 liters. The rear sofa folds down to provide 571 liters of space.

Type — Electro
Power — 136 HP — 154 hp
Torque — 315 H * m
Acceleration — 9 sec. — 8.3 sec.
Maximum speed — 145 km / h

The buyer is offered two versions: conventional and Advanced with a different electric motor. By the way, the unit is at the back and the drive is naturally rear.

The regular version is powered by a 100 kW electric motor with 136 horsepower and 315 H * m of torque. On the WLTP cycle, this version will travel 220 kilometers. The passport acceleration to 100 is 9 seconds, and the maximum speed is 145 km / h.

Advanced — 113 kW electric motor, delivering 154 horsepower and the same torque. The power reserve is 15 km less, but the dynamics are improved to 8.3 seconds with the same top speed.

In reality, the power reserve can be reduced by 30%, because the WLTP cycle is very economical metering.

The Honda e hatchback was built on a new platform with a fully independent suspension with MacPherson struts around.

Most of the suspension is aluminum, plus it is adjustable depending on the mode: normal and sport. It also changes the setting of the behavior of the electric motor.

Charging and recuperation

The electric car is charged through a port located on the hood, which transmits a voltage of 35.5 kW to a lithium-ion battery.

The battery is located in the floor, which provides a center of gravity at a height of 50 cm, plus an ideal 50:50 weight distribution here — excellent handling.

If you can find a 50 kW charging station, 80% of the battery capacity will be restored in 30 minutes. A full charge will take 14 hours from a regular outlet.

In reality, 80% really appears in 30 minutes, but the remaining 20% take longer to replenish. It should also be remembered that powerful charging stations gradually kill the capacity of your batteries.

This applies not only to electric vehicles, but in general to any devices with a battery: smartphones, cameras, etc.

From the braking, the energy goes back to the Honda e battery, the degree of which is regulated. If the maximum recuperation mode is on, then when the gas pedal is released, the car decelerates more on its own without pressing the brake pedal.

If you let go of the pedal, you feel that the car is not slowing down enough, you increase the mode with the left paddle shifter and it stops faster.

Yes, this is the same one-pedal ride available only to electric cars. There are three recuperation modes in total.

Price

Here the Japanese cheated a little, setting a base price in Germany from 29,500 euros (2.6 million rubles). This is the price including a subsidy of € 2,000.

The maximum configuration, again taking into account subsidies, will cost 32,500 euros (2.9 million rubles).

The standard equipment is well equipped:

• 6 airbags;
• keyless access;
• climate control;
• hatch;
• adaptive cruise control;
• recognition of road signs;
• automatic braking system;
• 180 W audio system.

In the Advanced version, in addition to the engine, there will be a heated steering wheel, heated seats, a parking aid system, Wi-Fi and a 375 W audio system.

The 2021 Honda e is a cool electric car in many ways, but overpriced. For this money, you can buy a Volkswagen ID.3, which is much better in terms of power reserve, and this is a very important and probably the main criterion for buying an electric car.
