Review of the new SUV

On February 13, 2020, a dealer conference was held in the city on the Neva, organized by representatives of the Chinese company Great Wall, at which the invited journalists were informed about the next return of the “good old” frame SUV.

Great Wall H5, Great Wall Hover, DW Hower — all these are the former names of the model produced at different production sites in 2005-2016. and, as a result, again got to the Russian market, this time, under the Haval brand.

Hawal became a subsidiary of Great Wall in 2015 and has now been used for an updated SUV.

In fact, the new Haval H5 2021 is a Chinese version of the well-known budget «crook» with a frame chassis structure, independent torsion bar double wishbone front suspension and dependent spring structure at the rear (continuous axle).

Body

The appearance of the new Haval H5 2021 model constantly underwent some transformations associated with name changes and attempts to uniqueize the SUV specifications for individual markets.

This time, Russia got the «Chinese version» of the «fifth Hawail», but with a front end in the style of Mazda.

By the way, the 2018 Haval H5 looked more like a Land Cruiser, and now the exterior of the SUV will refer us to the design of the 2021 CX-7 and CX-9.

Whether this becomes a plus for the updated frame «Chinese» — it is up to its new owners to decide, but if you look at the second generation Haval H5 2021, which is actively being designed in the Celestial Empire, then the front of the car looks like a Mercedes-Benz G-class.

Salon

With the interior of the new 2021 Haval H5, the engineers decided not to bother and just took it from the latest Hover, replacing only the steering wheel.

This layout looks quite modern, since it includes a built-in 8-inch display of the multimedia system, a «climate» control panel with bright indication and a nice analog instrument with a small monochrome screen in the middle.

Technical stuffing

There are two 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engines to choose from: 150 and 177 hp. Both have the same torque of 250 Nm, and each has a manual six-speed transmission.

Also, each engine is additionally equipped with a turbocharger, and an electronically controlled «Part-time» module is used to implement the all-wheel drive system in the transmission.

Modifications and options of the current generation

Russian buyers will be able to choose between two trim levels. The base, called Comfort, will include 2 airbags, climate control, heated front seats, power windows, leather steering wheel, cruise control, rear parking sensors and 16-inch alloy wheels.

The more expensive Premium package will provide side airbags, replace the fabric seat upholstery with leatherette, add a rear-view camera, electric driver’s seat, rain and light sensors, and also offer 17-inch wheels.

The new Haval H5 of the 2021 model year is already on sale and is offered at a price of 1,299,000 rubles for the version with a 150-horsepower engine and equipment of the Comfort level.

Prices for the Premium version with a more powerful engine start at RUB 1,499,000.
