The Japanese presented the new Honda Civic 5D 2022: a hatchback model.

In the second half of June of the twenty-first year, the Japanese declassified the new (eleventh) generation Honda Civic 5D hatchback.

Compared to the previously unveiled sedan, the five-door model is global, meaning it will be sold worldwide.

In terms of exterior design, the novelty largely repeats the aforementioned four-door. In particular, it has a similar face design with narrow horizontal LED headlights.

With the change of generations, the hatchback received a longer and lower hood, as well as windshield struts moved 50 mm back.

At the same time, additional windows appeared in the rear pillars of the car, which the developers abandoned in the eighth generation of the model.

The interior of the Honda Civic 5D 2022 is similar to the sedan. At the base, the car has an analog instrument panel with a 7.0-inch display and the same multimedia system screen.

Top-of-the-line versions are equipped with a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9.0-inch entertainment system monitor. Bose audio system and side airbags for the second row can be ordered for a surcharge.

The hatchback Honda Civic 5D 2022 in the new body is still based on the platform of the predecessor model, though seriously modified.

In particular, the five-door has a lighter aluminum subframe, new rubber-metal hinges and a rear track widened by 13 mm.

According to the developers, the torsional rigidity of the body of the new model has grown by 19% at once (the sedan has only + 8%), while the fifth door of the car is now composite — with a steel frame.

This solution allowed the hinges to be made more compact, gaining a little extra headroom for the rear passengers.

The hatchback is largely unified with the original Honda Civic 4D sedan. In particular, it has the same chassis with multi-link rear suspension.

According to the developers, the five-door chassis settings are «European»: sharp handling and improved vibration and noise isolation of the cabin are promised.

In length, the new five-door Civic 5D reaches 4,530 mm, that is, it is 144 mm shorter than the new sedan.

At the same time, the wheelbase of the models is the same — 2 735 mm. The width and height also coincide — 1 801 and 1 415 mm, respectively.

With the change of generation, the trunk volume of the hatch has grown to 452 liters (+ 6). The Japanese report that the opening of the cargo compartment has become wider by 40 mm, and the underground compartment is noticeably more spacious (due to the changed location of the muffler).

On the left side of the trunk, you can see a compact removable module. It contains a soft roller shutter that can be pulled out to the right if necessary. This solution is not new and is familiar from its predecessor.

So far, only the American and Japanese versions of the model are presented, and in the States the hatchback can be ordered with the same engines as the sedan.

This means that the base of the model relies on a 2.0-liter aspirated engine with a capacity of 160 hp. (187 Nm).

Also available for the five-door is a 1.5-liter «turbo four», which has a VTEC phase change system both at the inlet and at the outlet. The performance of this engine was increased to 182 forces (+ 6) and 240 Nm (+ 20).

By default, these engines work in tandem with a V-belt variator, although cars in the Sport and Sport Touring trim levels can also be ordered with a six-speed manual.

Interestingly, the company decided to equip the Honda Civic 5D for the home (Japanese) market exclusively with the mentioned 1.5-liter turbo engine. As for Europe, here the model will be offered as a hybrid with the proprietary e: HEV system.

The presence of the latter means that at low speeds the hybrid unit operates in a sequential mode, that is, an electric motor is responsible for the rotation of the wheels.

As the speed rises, it goes into parallel mode, in which the internal combustion engine is connected to the wheels by means of a clutch.

There is no information on the performance of the gasoline-electric version yet — the Japanese will bring it to the market only in the spring of 2022.

It is interesting that the five-door of the new generation already has a Honda Sensing complex in the base. It includes a range of electronic assistants, including automatic braking.

Works «smart» electronics based on data from the front camera, which has a higher resolution and increased viewing angle.

But the Japanese decided to abandon the radar. The Civic 5D hatchback in a new body will be produced both in Japan and at the American plant of the brand in Indiana.

The five-door will appear on the market of these countries in the fall of two thousand twenty-first, there is no information on prices yet.
