The next version of Elegance has a digital tidy with a 12.3 ″ screen, but lacks a 10.25-inch GU display, navigation, premium audio system and electric front seats (all of which will return to equipment in the next configuration).

The Business version comes on 18-inch alloy wheels and has ventilated front seats, while the top-end Prestige additionally comes with adaptive cruise control, adaptive headlights, blind spot monitoring and an 8.0 ″ head-up display.

Specifications

The new body of the 2021 Hyundai Sonata is based on the i GMP (innovative Global Modular Platform) platform built from the ground up, although the suspension architecture is the same as on its predecessor. This means that the front sedan uses MacPherson struts, and the rear — a multi-link.

The basic version of the 2020 Hyundai Sonata is based on the familiar 2.0-liter naturally aspirated G4NA engine with 150 hp. (192 Nm) and a six-speed automatic.

From a place to a hundred, such a sedan is capable of accelerating in 10.6 seconds, and its maximum speed reaches 200 km / h.

More expensive four-door modifications are equipped with a 2.5-liter G4KM engine with 180 forces and 232 Nm.

It all works with the same automatic transmission, accelerating the car from 0-100 km / h in 9.2 seconds. The maximum speed is 210 kilometers per hour.

Even with the top engine Hyundai Sonata 2020 in a new body is not a dynamic car. The set of speed is given to the car with laziness, and the activation of the sport mode and the accelerator pedal squeezed into the floor do not save the position, but they significantly reduce the level of acoustic comfort, since the engine starts to wail loudly during such operation.

In terms of handling, the sedan has become more sporty, which is especially noticeable on the steering wheel.

Previously, the latter was lightweight in almost all modes, but now, with small deviations, it is poured with the correct restoring force.

However, the severity of the steering response is average, and the cornering itself does not bring much pleasure.

The suspension on the car has become stiffer, so that small and medium irregularities in the road surface are felt almost always and on any wheels.

Consequently, four-door passengers will have to put up with constant shaking. The advantage is the almost complete absence of breakdowns (even in large holes).

Overview (exterior and interior)

The new Hyundai Sonata DN8 model received a lot of design solutions from the Le Fil Rouge concept. At the front, the sedan is notable for the wide «mouth» of the radiator grille and the predatory head optics with LED DRL strips, which smoothly flow into the chrome molding with a gradient laser notch that goes into the hood.

This solution is called «Hidden Lighting Lamps», which can be translated as «hidden lamps».

From the side, the four-door now looks more like a liftback than a regular sedan. The car has a long hood, a sloping roofline with a shallow rear window, and a short trunk «tail».

Embossed sidewalls with eye-catching embossings add sportiness to the silhouette.

The main feature of the stern of the new Sonata is the LED brackets of the lanterns, which, among other things, are also united with each other by a luminous strip along the bottom.

In the dark, such a solution resembles a flattened horseshoe and invariably attracts the attention of other road users.

The interior of the Hyundai Sonata 2021 is perceived to be noticeably more expensive compared to its predecessor.

In many ways, this is facilitated by more expensive finishing materials, as well as the stylish design of the front panel, which is characterized by the presence of narrowed ventilation deflectors and dotted chrome decor.

By default, the car has an analog dashboard, which in older trim levels gives way to a 12.3-inch digital dashboard.

Interestingly, the style of displaying information on the latter directly depends on the selected driving mode. In «Comfort», the hand-drawn tidy has a calm design in blue tones, and when a sports preset is activated, it starts to glow red.

The interior of the 2021 Hyundai Sonata in a new body boasts a stylish four-spoke multifunction steering wheel, which the Koreans have tried to stylize as an aircraft steering wheel.

As for the multimedia system, the sedan is based on an 8.0-inch head unit screen, and the top-end versions are equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen.

The front seats have a good profile, but they are a little harsh, and their lateral support rollers are poorly expressed.

At the same time, it is quite comfortable to sit in them, and the front passenger can even use a special mode in which the edge of the pillow rises and the back reclines, which contributes to the most relaxed ride.

At the back, the Koreans have installed a traditional three-seater sofa, the central section of which can be folded back if necessary, thereby obtaining a comfortable central armrest.

The stock of free space in the legs of the passengers of the second row is sufficient, but the space above your head is barely enough — the notorious sloping roof is to blame.

There are no questions about the quality of finishing materials in the new Sonata 8, although there is enough hard plastic in the cabin.

However, the latter is not as upsetting as the large number of glossy black components (in top trim levels). This decor looks elegant, but its practicality tends to zero, since all these surfaces quickly get dirty and need regular maintenance.
