Lamborghini SC20 2022: unique roadster with naturally aspirated V12.

Two years ago, Lamborghini unveiled the Lamborghini SC18 coupe, co-designed by an unnamed customer with the factory racing team Squadra Corse. And now the Italians have shown the SC20 roadster, which is also built to order in a single copy.

Like the SC18 coupe, the new Lamborghini SC20 is road-legal, but the two cars still have a lot in common.

Externally, the roadster resembles the SC18 model with a characteristic design of the front bumper with recognizable recesses, an almost identical splitter and trapezoidal air intakes.

It looks like a huge diffuser at the stern, a wide wing and a pair of exhaust pipes, located almost at the level of the rear lights. The creators claim the SC20’s exterior is inspired by the Diablo VT, Veneno, Concept S and Aventador J roadsters.

The all-LED optics of the SC20 have their own, as well as the body, devoid of the traditional windshield and side windows. Instead, only barely noticeable partitions are only a few centimeters high, which is enough to divert air currents from the heads of the driver and passenger.

The interior, with its many carbon fiber inserts, is adorned with vibrant blue accents found on wheels and bodywork, aluminum door handles and quirky 3D-printed air vents. Lightweight tricolor racing seats upholstered in leather and Alcantara.

From a technical point of view, the new Lamborghini SC20 open-top also follows the SC18 coupe in many ways. They are both equipped with a naturally aspirated 6.5 V12 engine (770 hp, 720 Nm), which is borrowed from the flagship model Aventador SVJ, and a seven-speed «robot».

The dynamic characteristics in the company, alas, are not disclosed, as well as the price of the car. However, it probably turned out to be significantly more expensive than the standard model Aventador SVJ Roadster, which at the time of its debut was estimated at 387 thousand euros excluding taxes.

The SC20 features exclusive details, starting with body colors based on white Bianco Fu, created especially for the client, against which the blue Blu Cepheus livery stands out brightly.

The power plant of the highest level among Lamborghini engines is a naturally aspirated V12 with a volume of 6498 cm3, producing 770 hp. at 8500 rpm and a torque of 720 Nm at 6750 rpm, controlled by an optimized seven-speed ISR (Independent Shifting Rod) gearbox.

The carbon fiber body has been designed with aerodynamics to comfortably drive the roadster without a windshield, with only a tiny transparent fairing on the front and sides.

The car continued the ideas behind the Aventador J and Veneno. The designers also took inspiration from the open Diablo VT Roadster from the 90s.

The hood air intakes are inspired by the racing Huracan GT3 EVO, and the sculpted sides are reminiscent of the Essenza SCV12. A huge carbon fiber wing is provided at the stern. It is devoid of servos, so it will have to be manually set to one of three possible positions.

Despite the fact that the SC20 is based on the Aventador, all the body panels of the new model are unique. Even the lighting equipment is specially made for this machine.

In terms of technique, there are not so many differences from the «donor». It uses a proprietary 6.5-liter V12, the old-fashioned naturally aspirated.

It develops 770 hp. at 8500 rpm and 720 Nm at 6750. The 7-speed «robot» and four-wheel drive are retained.

The interior also has many similarities to the Aventador, although there are now 3D-printed ventilation deflectors and handles made of solid aluminum.

“The SC20 is a combination of sophisticated engineering, Italian craftsmanship, sportiness and cutting-edge design.

It is also an example of the use of our V12 engine and carbon fiber in a radical open-top vehicle that unmistakably carries Lamborghini DNA, ”said Lamborghini Chief Technology Officer Maurizio Reggiani.
