Mazda has done something similar now, only the goal is different this time. They tried to turn the Mazda CX-30 SUV into an electric car, not a harsh SUV.

Mazda already has a serial «electric train»: the non-format model MX-30 EV entered the markets of Japan and Europe, America is next in line.

But such a car will not appear in China: with a traction battery with a capacity of only 35.5 kW ∙ h and a cruising range of 200 km (according to the WLTP cycle), buyers cannot be attracted here.

Therefore, such an absurd Mazda CX-30 EV has been developed for the local market.

It was the installation of a larger battery that forced the developers to raise the body, adding additional «folds» at the sills and wheel arches.

Alas, Mazda has not yet announced the characteristics of the car, because the CX-30 EV will only appear on sale by the end of the year.

The Changan Mazda JV will manufacture these electric vehicles.

The main visual differentiator of the CX-30 EV, which really catches the eye, is the increased ground clearance.

Such significant ground clearance is a direct consequence of the adaptation of a platform that was not originally designed to accommodate the battery pack under the floor of the rear of the car. In this regard, the model also received enlarged wheel arches with wide plastic linings.

At the moment, the characteristics of the new Mazda CX-30 EV are unknown.

However, it was announced that the main systems, batteries and electric motors will be provided by the Chinese company Changan.

Thus, the Japanese will be responsible for the design of the body, wheels and interior.

Recall that on the European continent, the Hiroshima-based firm sells only one electric model — the Mazda MX-30.

This vehicle has a very attractive design with rear doors opening in the opposite direction. The car is driven by a 143 hp electric motor and a 35.5 kWh lithium-ion battery.

This figure provides the electric car with a power reserve of 200 km without recharging.

According to the latest information, the MX-30 motor range will soon be complemented by a new generation Wankel rotary engine.
