The 2021 Mazda CX-9 is not much different from its predecessor. However, this impression arises only if you do not consider the list of onboard equipment.

This version of the Japanese competitor Volkswagen Teramont and Skoda Kodiaq in top-end versions stands out due to revised configurations, which were supplemented with additional equipment.

Now the 7-seater Mazda CX-9 is offered in Russia for a minimum of 3.108 million rubles.

This amount includes front and side airbags, a 3-zone climate, a multimedia complex with a separate joystick and an 8-inch tablet.

For a surcharge, along with the Japanese crossover, numerous safety systems are offered (lane hold, headlight control, driver fatigue control, and so on), premium acoustics and options that mainly increase the overall level of comfort.

Unlike other markets in Russia, the Mazda CX-9 is offered only with a 2.5-liter turbo engine. It is combined with all-wheel drive, complemented by a proprietary traction vector control system.

Options and prices

The 2021 Mazda CX-9 still retains the new body that served as a kind of prototype for all modern Japanese cars.

However, even in the photo, it is noticeable that outwardly the crossover, in comparison with other SUVs, is already outdated.

The situation is not improved by the revision of the available trim levels, which led to a slight increase in prices.

Probably, in the near future there will be a large-scale update of the Mazda CX-9, which will also affect the technical characteristics of the Japanese model. In the meantime, the car is available in Russia in four versions.

Specifications

The basis of the 2021 Mazda CX-9 is the same as its predecessor: McPherson front struts and multi-link rear suspension.

However, the engineers reconfigured the chassis and redesigned the steering, eliminating quite a few shortcomings.

Retained the Japanese crossover and the proprietary traction redistribution system, which is combined with all-wheel drive. The latter operates in automatic mode, independently adjusting to irregularities and sliding.

As before, the Mazda CX-9 is equipped with a 6-speed automatic transmission and a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine.

The main feature of this engine is its turbine, which regulates the amount of exhaust gases that go to the impeller.

At low revs, it opens only a narrow channel, after which a wide one. The turbine is also complemented by a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system.

The base motor has a maximum output of 231 hp. with a torque of 420 N * m.

Handling and off-road capabilities

The latest redesign, which has affected the Mazda CX-9, was for the sake of handling and off-road ability. However, Japanese engineers could not eliminate all the shortcomings that characterized the predecessor.

The crossover is complemented by reconfigured front spring mounts and new shock absorbers for a smoother ride.

However, driving the Mazda CX-9 over large pits or overhangs is not recommended, as the suspension experiences significant impacts with this driving style.

Along with the suspension, improvements were made to the steering gear. It was supplemented with less flexible supports.

The fastening of the rods to the steering knuckles has been changed. These improvements made the Mazda CX-9 more manageable.

In particular, the car maintains almost constant feedback when the steering wheel is turned.

The crossover is equipped with a non-disconnectable stabilization system, due to which the driver can not be afraid of drifts on an icy road. The well-balanced chassis also contributes to this.

Maintenance costs

The Mazda CX-9 is a relatively inexpensive crossover to maintain. In particular, the first maintenance, which is carried out after 15 thousand kilometers, will cost about 13 thousand rubles.

Otherwise, the Japanese model does not cause any problems, provided that the consumables are replaced in a timely manner.

Moreover, the suspension elements of the crossover are characterized by increased endurance. A number of complaints are caused by the wiring that ensures the operation of the all-wheel drive.

But its restoration costs about three thousand rubles. More serious costs await owners of Mazda CX-9 after 250 thousand kilometers, when it becomes necessary to repair the turbine and automatic transmission.

Dynamic characteristics and fuel consumption

Despite its rather large dimensions, the Mazda CX-9 is not inferior to its competitors in terms of acceleration dynamics.

The Japanese model takes 8.9 seconds to accelerate to 100 km / h. At the same time, the average fuel consumption rate reaches 9.2 liters.

Design

Mazda CX-9 is distinguished by laconic and, at the same time, sporty performance.

The body of the Japanese model is characterized by smooth transitions between individual elements without pronounced protrusions and stampings.

The head optics of the crossover are narrow and complemented by round LED lights. The taillights are designed in a similar style.

At the front, there is a shortened bumper with an original cutout for air vents, which goes all the way to the compact air intake.

An additional plastic body kit is laid along the bottom of the Japanese model.
The salon is no less laconic.

The internal space is almost completely devoid of physical keys. The touchscreen monitor is located quite far on the front panel, which, however, does not affect the convenience of controlling the on-board electronics. The front seats provide a comfortable fit.

The same applies to the second row of seats, which is not the case for the rear seats. The interior is lavishly trimmed with expensive leather, which is present on the dashboard, door cards and many other details.

The transmission tunnel is visually divided into 2 segments, one of which is dedicated to the chassis control keys and the gearshift lever.

The luggage compartment of the crossover is 230 liters (810 liters with the third row of seats folded).

Sales start

Mazda brought the updated crossover to the Russian market without delay for a long time. The car is assembled from ready-made vehicle kits in Vladivostok.
