The electric crossover Mercedes-Benz EQB is presented in Shanghai.

At the April 2021 Shanghai Motor Show, the premiere of the Mercedes-Benz EQB crossover took place.

The novelty is an electric version of the GLB model. It has the same bodywork, while from the outside it can be recognized by the original headlights and a plug instead of the radiator grill.

Of the changes in the stern, it is worth noting the appearance of rear lights united by a jumper and a platform for a license plate, which is located directly on the bumper of the electric car, and not on the fifth door.

Interestingly, such design adjustments, as well as a completely flat bottom, allowed the Germans to reduce the drag coefficient Cd to 0.28 (-0.05).

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQB 2021-2022 almost completely repeats that of a regular model.

An electric car can be recognized only by a different design of the virtual instrument cluster and additional menu sections of the multimedia system.

The main market for the model will be China, where the crossover will be offered exclusively with a three-row cabin, which consists of two separate seats with Isofix mounts.

According to the manufacturer, the gallery is designed for passengers up to 165 cm tall (the GLB has 168 cm).

But in Europe, cars will be two-row by default, and for an additional charge for the second row they will offer the possibility of longitudinal adjustment in the range of 140 mm.

The third row in the local market will also be an option.

Like the regular Mercedes GLB, the electric EQB is built on the MFA platform. Due to a slightly different body kit, the crossover reaches a length of 4 684 mm (+ 50), but the wheelbase of both models is identical — 2 829 mm.

The crossovers have the same width — 1834 mm. At the same time, the trunk of the electric modification is slightly smaller than that of the conventional model.

This is due to the higher floor level, under which the Germans placed the traction battery.

So, the volume of the cargo compartment for five-seater cars is declared at the level of 495 liters (- 75), and with the rear seats folded down — 1,710 liters (- 95).

For seven-seater cars, the trunk capacity is not advertised by default, but with the gallery folded down, the compartment volume is 465 liters, and if you also fold the second row, then it’s already 1,620 liters.

So far, the Germans have declassified only the most powerful version of the model — the EQB 350 4Matic. This is an all-wheel drive electric car with two motors with a total capacity of 292 hp.

The power units are powered for their work from an 80 kWh battery, which should be enough for 419 km of run (according to the WLTP cycle).

The traction battery of the model can be recharged both from a household outlet and from DC terminals with a capacity of up to 100 kW.

Over time, the Germans will also bring to the market a basic version of the EQB 250, which will receive one electric motor for 190 forces and a battery with a capacity of 66.5 kWh.

Plus, the model will have some long-range modification, but the developers have not yet spread about its features.

In China, the production of the new Mercedes EQB will be carried out by the Beijing Benz JV, and the model should be on the conveyor in the coming weeks, although there is no information on prices yet.

Then the crossover will appear in Europe. Cars for the local market will be produced already at a plant in Hungary, where the assembly of CLA sedans and station wagons is also established. Well, in 2022, the car should debut in the United States.
