Mercedes-Benz EQS AMG: 600-strong installation and top speed — 250 km / h
The model promises to become the flagship of the line of «charged» electric sedans of the German brand. It will hit the market in 2022.

Like many other automakers today, Mercedes-Benz is developing a «plug-in» direction: we are talking about the EQ electric vehicle range.

Its firstborn was the EQC crossover, then the EQV minivan was introduced (both models are now sold in Europe). One of the next novelties promises to be the EQS sedan, and it will also have a «hot» version with the AMG prefix to the name.

Recall that the prototype of the «four-door» Mercedes-Benz EQS is the Vision EQS concept, which was presented in September 2019 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

As we reported earlier, the appearance of the commercial electric sedan will differ slightly from the precursor. So, he made «optics» simpler, smaller wheels, wider racks, as well as cameras on the sides were replaced with conventional rear-view mirrors.

Probably, the exterior of the «charged» version will be the same, with the exception of AMG branded parts, for example, different bumpers, a diffuser, another plug instead of a radiator grill.

It is expected that the interior of the production sedan will change much more noticeably. Judging by the previously published spy photos, from the concept, the new items on the center console will have a large touch panel.

The main «tidy» will be located on the screen (similar to all the latest models of the brand). Presumably, the interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS AMG will be the same, except that it will receive design elements in the appropriate style (such as contrast stitching) and sports seats.

The EQS sedan is based on the original modular electric vehicle platform MEA (Modular Electric Architecture).

It has a spacious interior due to its large wheelbase, short bonnet, forward-pushed A-pillars and the lack of a central tunnel.

The «four-door» has four-wheel drive, an electric motor is installed on each axle. It is expected that the power of the power plant will be about the same as that of the concept (476 hp and 760 Nm), such characteristics will be in the EQS 550 4Matic.

Show car to accelerate from zero to «hundreds» needs 4.5 seconds, and its maximum speed is about 200 km / h.

According to preliminary information, the battery capacity will be approximately 100 kW * h, and the real power reserve without recharging will be 515 km (although the WLTP cycle has counted about 700 km).

According to Autocar, the EQS AMG will also have a twin-engine power plant, with a combined output of more than 600 hp and maximum torque of 900 Nm.

That is, it will be approximately equal in performance to the current S63 4Matic, which is equipped with a 4.0-liter V8 gasoline engine with twin turbocharging (its power is 612 hp and torque is 900 Nm).

The «hot» electric sedan will reduce the acceleration time to hundreds (by how much, it has not yet been reported), and the maximum speed will rise to 250 km / h.

In addition, according to the publication, the «charged» versions of the «socket» cars EQS, «four-door» EQE and, possibly, the planned SUV with an unconfirmed name EQG will have a single modular electric transmission (by analogy with how the 63 AMG versions now use one internal combustion engine).

It is not yet clear whether the hot versions of the more compact electric cars EQA and EQB will be included in this list.

For buyers of Mercedes-Benz EQS will have to compete with Tesla Model S, Porsche Taycan and Jaguar XJ of the next generation (the car is in development, will start in 2021).

The EQS will be sold at the same time as the seventh generation S-Class, which will hit the market next year.

The production of the electric car will be set up at the same plant where the current S-Class is produced — in Sindelfingen (Germany).

As we assumed earlier, despite the extremely modest interest of Russians in electric vehicles, EQS will probably still be brought to Russia — for image reasons.

The interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS is shown.

No, the flagship electric liftback Mercedes-Benz EQS is still not declassified, but now we can see how its interior will look like with the widely-publicized MBUX Hyperscreen front panel.

It is a full-width glass surface (141 cm) that integrates three displays and air vents, but does not have physical buttons and switches. Also in this «hyperscreen» are built-in contour lighting elements of the cabin.

The glass with an area of 2432 cm2 has curves, the shape of which is set during the manufacturing process at a temperature of 650 degrees to avoid distortion.

There is a 12.3-inch dash screen in front of the driver, a 17.7-inch touchscreen in the center, and another 12.3-inch touchscreen display is located in front of the passenger and contains the corresponding functionality.

If the passenger seat is not occupied, a splash screen is displayed on this screen. The center and passenger screens are made using organic light-emitting diode (OLED) technology and have increased contrast.

12 actuators are installed under the glass of the «hyperscreen» to provide feedback (clicks or vibration after pressing), and its intensity depends on the force of pressing the screen. Eight processors and 24 GB of RAM are responsible for the operation of the entire system.

The interface of the media system provides for the so-called zero layer: at the top of the screen, all the main sections of the menu are always collected to provide quick access.

Several hot keys are grouped on the touchpad around the car start button: this block is located in the center tunnel.

There is also a projection screen in front of the driver. The developers also promise «artificial intelligence», that is, a self-learning program: multimedia will be able to offer certain functions that the driver or passenger periodically turns to.

However, MBUX Hyperscreen will be an option. And the basic interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS electric car looks almost the same as that of the S-class: a separate instrument screen (12.3 inches) is installed in front of the driver, and a vertical media system tablet with a diagonal of 12.8 inches is installed in the center.

In this case, the car start button and all hot keys are located on the front panel. In terms of equipment, the EQS will not be inferior to the S-class: heating and ventilation of all seats, various massage programs, a panoramic roof (with two sections), a Burmester audio system with a power of 710 watts (15 speakers), as well as a media system for rear passengers (two screens of 11, 6 inches and a removable tablet in the armrest).

The rest of the details will appear later. In the meantime, we know that the EQS will not be a sedan, but a five-door liftback with very efficient aerodynamics: a Cd of just 0.20! According to preliminary information, the initial range will include four modifications, among which there will be one AMG variant.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS will be produced at the same Factory 56 plant in Sindelfingen, where the new S-Class is being made, and preparations for production are already coming to an end. The official premiere is scheduled for April 15th.
