Mercedes EQA 2021: the electric sibling of the GLA crossover.
In 2021, four models will be released under the electric sub-brand Mercedes-EQ, and the first of them debuted on Wednesday, January 20.

The compact SUV Mercedes EQA, built on the same platform with the second generation GLA crossover, has outpaced its congeners.

The newcomer was presented in the only modification of the EQA 250, which is equipped with a 190-horsepower electric motor and a traction battery with a useful capacity of 66.5 kWh.

Such a car will go on sale on the German market in the spring at a price of 47,540 euros (about 4.2 million rubles).

Later, the Mercedes EQA family will be replenished with more powerful variations, including all-wheel drive with a separate electric motor on the rear axle.

The assembly of the machines is planned to be carried out at factories in Rastatt (Germany) and Beijing.

An enterprise in Kamenets will be engaged in the production of batteries. In the future, the supply of batteries will be established from the Polish Javor.

Design and dimensions

Despite the GLA family ties, the EQA electric car looks quite different from its brother. The main feature of the battery model is the continuous light strips of the front and rear optics over the entire width of the body.

Another characteristic feature is a black plug in place of the radiator grill. From the stern, the electric SUV can be recognized by the original bumper, on which the license plate area is located (in the GLA it is located on the fifth door).

And, of course, the wheels for the Mercedes EQA are specially selected — with improved aerodynamic performance.

Their size is 18 inches, and they are mounted on the rim with 235/55 R18 tires.

There are slight discrepancies in the external dimensions of the electric vehicle and the donor GLA. Thus, the EQA is 53 mm longer (4463 mm) and 9 mm higher (1620 mm) than its relative.

The other dimensions are completely the same: the width is 1834 mm, the wheelbase is 2729 mm. The drag coefficient of the Mercedes EQA body is declared at 0.28 (versus 0.29 for the GLA).

Interior

In terms of interior layout, the new Mercedes electric crossover repeats the A-class models. The front panel has an identical configuration, and the differences should be looked for only in the interface of the digital dashboard and the MBUX media center (the size of both screens is 7 or 10.25 inches).

Here for the EQA there are specific menus that display data on the operation of the electric drive. There is, however, one more feature of the interior of the novelty — the trim elements with internal lighting.

Similar decor is found on panels and door cards. Also worth mentioning are the optional Electric Art, AMG Line and Night Package interior design packages.

However, they transform the crossover not only inside, but also outside.

The base 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA includes adaptive High Performance LED headlights, electric tailgate, MBUX media center with navigation and rear view camera, interior lighting with 64 colors, seats with adjustable lumbar support, heat pump to reduce energy consumption for interior heating.

An Energizing Package Plus system and a hitch are available as an option, allowing you to tow a trailer weighing up to 750 kg.

Among the specific equipment of the electric car, we note the advanced navigation of Electric Intelligence, which builds a route taking into account the location of charging stations.

Access to AC and DC terminals (about 450,000 points in 31 countries) is opened by the Mercedes me Charge service, which has a built-in payment function with simple billing procedure.

Specifications Mercedes EQA 2021

Available from the start of sales, the front-wheel drive modification of the EQA 250 is equipped with an electric motor with a return of 190 hp. and 375 Nm.

It transfers traction to the wheels through a conventional gearbox. The battery with a capacity of 66.5 kWh is integrated underground, which gives the vehicle a low center of gravity.

On a single charge, an electric car can cover 426 km according to the WLTP method or 486 km according to the NEDC cycle. The crossover accelerates to 100 km / h in 8.9 seconds, and the top speed is limited to 160 km / h.

Replenishment of battery energy up to 100% using a standard 11 kW on-board device takes about 5 hours 45 minutes for EQA. When connected to a 100-kilowatt station, the battery will be charged to 80% in just 30 minutes.

The characteristics of all other versions of the SUV (more than 200 kW of recoil and more than 500 km of run according to the WLTP standard are promised) will be announced later.
