Mitsubishi ASX 2021: multi-purpose crossover at an affordable price level.
The range of practical and functional compact crossovers Mitsubishi ASX series has expanded with a new version, which will enter the global automotive market under the name Mitsubishi ASX 2021.

In the new edition, the urban front-wheel-drive crossover differs from the earlier model with a modified front end design and spot updates in the interior.

The technical and electronic equipment of the 2021 model, as well as the starting and consumption characteristics, remained unchanged.

The crossover meets the wishes of motorists who value in their car a combination of nominal high-speed and “comfortable” options with operational reliability and affordable cost.

Exterior

The design of the front end is dominated by details of an aggressive, moreover, brutal style uncharacteristic of early models. In the photo in front projection, the new model demonstrates:

• panoramic format of the windscreen;

• sharp edges of the hood sides;

• decorative chrome plating of brand symbols and trapezoidal radiator grill;

• angular outlines of xenon optics blocks.

The rest of the front area is occupied by a plastic trim with a logo and a large-mesh large-format air intake, framed by massive silver semi-perimeters.

In the basic configuration, there are vertical lamps for running lights and fog lights built into the diffusers. The arrangement of the front side of the body is completed by a curly protective and decorative panel of an unpainted plastic body kit.

No less attractive is the new body of the Mitsubishi ASX 2021 crossover in the photos and videos from the side view. In sight:

• streamlined body contour with decorative rails and three-section glazing;

• exclusive mirrors and embossed sidewalls with geometrically flawless wheel arches;

• a protective skirt of the lower edge of the body and a five-spoke two-tone design of standard 16-inch wheels.

From the rear perspective, the new crossover model range is recognizable by the following design features. In the spotlight:

• compact format of a window shaded with a spoiler and a complex configuration of marker and stop lamps;

• characteristic cross-sections of the tailgate;
• a protruding bumper with air outlet diffusers, fog lights and a figured protective panel of a massive plastic body kit.

The external decor of the stern is typical: chrome logo and a variety of dynamic stepped reliefs. Despite the budget status, the new generation crossover looks not only stylish, but also largely presentable.

Interior

Restyling brought nothing new to the design of the salon volume. The offered finishing and decorating assortment still includes fabric, kozhimite and a small amount of impact-resistant facing plastic. Positive perception forms:

• improved information content of the analog instrument panel;

• 8-inch diagonal of the media-command display;

• block construct of an ergonomic center console;

• command buttons and steering wheel switches are responsible for activating the most frequently requested options.

The standard construction of the tunnel includes a panel with ports for connecting external electronic digital gadgets, a transmission shift lever and a set of organizers.

Perfectly profiled pilot seats will delight owners with lateral support, electric adjustment ranges, heated seats and the comfort of an armrest with a built-in well for small luggage.

The triple status of the rear row seats can be considered conditional. The test drive showed that the sofa can accommodate two adult passengers with acceptable comfort.

Moderate by crossover standards, the volume of the 384-liter trunk is compensated by an increase to 1210 liters due to the partial dismantling of the sofa back.

Specifications

The original body dimensions in the classic ratios of 4365 x 1810 and 1640 mm, as well as the length of the wheelbase of 2670 mm, remained unchanged. The clearance height in front- and all-wheel drive versions is 195 and 215 mm.

The basis of the Mitsubishi ASX 2021 is a modular universal platform GS with an independent rack-mount suspension of the front and multi-link rear axle. The basic chassis equipment includes an anti-roll bar, disc brakes and a list of safety systems rated for its class.

• The version of the crossover for the Russian market is equipped with gasoline «aspirated» with variable valve timing. The base model will receive a highly productive and economical tandem of a 1.6-liter inline-four with 117 hp / 154 Nm and a 5-speed manual transmission.

• For more advanced top-end modifications, the manufacturer promised a 2-liter internal combustion engine with an output of 150 hp. and 197 Nm of peak thrust, which will receive a variator transmission equipped with a multi-plate clutch.

• The crossover showed the time to accelerate from the start to 100 km / h 11.4-11.8 seconds, top speed 184-192 km / h, fuel consumption in the range of 6.1 to 7.7 liters.

Options and prices

In the domestic crossover market, the new Mitsubishi ASX 2021 model year will be presented in four modifications. The price of the standard model starts at 1.35 million rubles. The most advanced version costs $ 1.85 million.

Sales start in Russia

According to the established tradition, the first batches of the new crossover will be sent to the European market at the end of the first half of the year. The release date in Russia will be implemented closer to the beginning of autumn.

Competing models

According to branded experts, the new version of Mitsubishi ASX has real opportunities for full-fledged competition with the same type of developments of European and Asian brands.

Opel Antara, Suzuki SX4, Vortex Tingo FL, Mitsubishi Outlander, Lifan X60 and Jeep Compass are leading in the preliminary list of rivals.
