An all-electric version of the Nissan Maxima will be introduced in 2022.
As part of his interview, Ashwani Gupta, Nissan’s chief operating officer, talked about plans for the next generation of the Nissan Maxima full-size sedan.
The iconic model could become all-electric.
Nissan wants to update about 70 percent of its lineup by mid-2021. As a long-term growth strategy, the Japanese automaker will move to a shorter three-year life cycle for its core models — meaning each new generation will last three years, rather than five as in the past.
«We are in the process of massively updating our model lineup in the United States,» said Ashwani Gupta, Nissan’s chief operating officer.
«As part of our development strategy for the coming years, the next generation of the Maxima full-size sedan could become all-electric.
A new version of the model, which will be inspired by the previously unveiled electric IMs concept, could be available in the second half of 2022.
In addition, Mr. Gupta revealed that a few months before that, Nissan is expected to unveil the successor to the 370Z sports car.
It will reportedly be inspired by the old Nissan Z-series sports cars in terms of design and will be powered by a 3.0-liter V6 engine.
Meanwhile, a new version of the GT-R supercar is also under development, but it probably won’t arrive until 2023.
The budget model Versa will probably cease to exist after its current generation, but still, new versions of the car will come out until the second half of 2022.
The more expensive Sentra model will be sold unchanged until 2023, at which time a restyled model will be revealed.
Also, the chief operating officer of the brand told about the changes in the segment of crossovers.
Thus, for example, the mid-size Murano should be completely «redesigned» for the 2022 model year, while the full-size Pathfinder should get a new generation a few months earlier.
The same goes for the Amanda and the Rogue (aka X-Trail).
