Stylish retro coupe RML Short Wheelbase inspired by the classic Ferrari 250.

British engineering company RML Group, headquartered in Northamptonshire, has introduced a retro-coupe called RML Short Wheelbase.

Development of the model began three years ago, while in the process the British specialists were guided by the classic 1959 Ferrari 250 GT SWB. The latter is reminded here of the similar proportions of the carbon fiber body.

According to the developers, the salon of the retro coupe is quite spacious, and even two tall riders (up to two meters) can be comfortable in it.

Of the equipment, it is worth noting air conditioning, a multimedia system with a navigator, as well as electric seat adjustment. The RML Short Wheelbase is 4,264 mm long and 1,954 mm wide.

Thus, in terms of dimensions, the novelty turned out to be somewhat larger than the mentioned Italian model.

The main units and components in the RML Group were borrowed from the 1996 Ferrari 550 Maranello. In particular, the British retro coupe received an Italian 5.5-liter aspirated V12 with 485 hp. (568 Nm) and a six-speed manual.

The two-door is reported to have a dry weight of 1,470 kg.

From 0-60 mph (97 km / h), it is capable of accelerating in 4.1 seconds, and the top speed of the car is approaching 300 km / h. In total, the British will build only 30 copies of the RML Short Wheelbase coupe, with the first commercial vehicles being ready in the fourth quarter of 2021.

The cost of the car has not yet been announced.
A similar machine has already been announced by the British company GTO Engineering, but its development has not yet been completed, and now we are talking about a completely different project.

Although he is originally from England. This time, the RML Group from Northamptonshire, formed in 1984 and well known in the world of automotive engineering, took over the business.

RML is engaged in the development of racing cars, but also takes on individual projects for the automotive industry.

For example, it was this company, commissioned by Nissan, that built prototypes of the Nissan Juke-R and Infiniti Q50 Eau Rouge (both with the GT-R coupe filling), and also participated in the development of the Aston Martin Vulcan hypercar.

The new retro coupe is the first car of the RML Group under its own brand and is called the RML Short Wheelbase.

The developers do not hide the fact that the supercar is made based on the 1959 Ferrari 250 GT SWB model: these shapes and proportions still cannot be confused with anything.

The project was initiated three years ago, but if GTO Engineering builds its Squalo coupe from scratch (even the V12 4.0 engine with a capacity of about 460 forces will be original there), then the RML Group decided to use Ferrari components and assemblies.

Judging by the description, the 1996 Ferrari 550 Maranello model became the donor. It borrowed at least a 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine (485 hp, 568 Nm) and a six-speed «mechanics».

Perhaps the chassis also came from the Maranello model, but the developers are silent about this.

However, the body of the RML Short Wheelbase coupe is definitely its own, and it is made of carbon fiber.

The length of the car is 4264 mm, width is 1954 mm, that is, this coupe is noticeably larger than the Ferrari 250 GT SWB of the fifties.

And the salon, as the creators promise, will be much more spacious and can easily accommodate riders up to two meters tall. From the equipment promised electric seats, air conditioning and a media system with a navigator.

Estimated dry weight of the machine — 1470 kg. The coupe will be able to accelerate to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 4.1 seconds, and the top speed should exceed 298 km / h.

The first commercial copies are promised in the fourth quarter of this year, and the circulation will be about 30 pieces.

The price has not yet been announced. GTO Engineering promises to bring its Ferrari 250 remake to the market only by 2023, but this car should turn out to be even more interesting.
