Subaru Legacy 2021: the seventh generation sedan.

The premiere of the new 7th generation Subaru Legacy sedan took place at the Chicago Auto Show in February two thousand nineteen.

The car evolved from the outside, retaining the silhouette familiar from its predecessor, but at the same time it changed noticeably outwardly, moved to a new platform and got a turbocharged boxer.

The design of the Subaru Legacy 2021 in the new body has not changed too much — even the overall dimensions of the car remained practically the same.

The novelty can be recognized in details — the head optics and taillights have undergone revisions, the bumpers and the radiator grille have slightly changed.

In general, the body lines of the sedan have become a little smoother, having lost the sharp edges of the sixth generation car.

Also, new body paint options and rims have become available for the car, and among the trim levels are Base, Premium, Sport, Limited, Limited XT and Touring XT (the XT prefix means the presence of a supercharged engine).

The interior of the new 2021 Subaru Legacy sports improved materials, and the most expensive version features Nappa leather for the first time in the history of the brand.

Also, the engineers managed to increase the level of noise insulation, which made it possible to reduce the noise level at the track speed by 3 dB.

At the base of the car, there are eight airbags and an EyeSight complex with a pair of cameras under the windshield, which has learned to keep the car in the center of the occupied lane.

The standard infotainment screen goes at 7.0 ″ with an analog climate control unit underneath, while more advanced versions sport the Starlink media system.

The latter boasts a large vertically oriented 11.6-inch touchscreen display, from which navigation, music, climate and other minor functions are controlled.

In addition, for convenience, the screen can be divided into two thematic zones, while the «hot» physical buttons are still preserved here.

Specifications

The new 2021 Subaru Legacy body has moved to the SGP (Subaru Global Platform) platform with McPherson struts at the front and double wishbone suspension at the rear.

The length of the sedan is 4,840 mm (+ 40), the wheelbase is 2,750, the width is 1,840, the height is 1,500, the trunk volume is 428 liters (+ 3).

By using the new bogie, the engineers have been able to lower the vehicle’s center of gravity, reduce vibration and increase structural strength.

The torsional rigidity of the body has increased by 70%, the rear subframe has become twice as rigid, and the production technology of the model now provides for hanging the outer panels on the body only after the formation of the load-bearing structure.

The base engine for the Subaru Legacy 7 remains a 2.5-liter aspirated, but here it is seriously modernized — 90% of new components are used in the design.

The engine has direct injection, increased compression ratio, start-stop system, and its power is 185 hp. (+ 10) and 239 Nm (+ 4).

At the same time, active shutters in the radiator grille contribute to a decrease in fuel consumption. The 3.6-liter «six» was replaced by a 2.4-liter four-cylinder turbocharged FA24 boxer, producing 264 «horses» and 376 Nm of torque.

Both are paired with a modified Lineartronic wedge-chain variator with a new hydraulic system and an expanded range of gear ratios.

It takes 8.6 seconds for a sedan with an initial engine to accelerate to a hundred, and a more powerful version does it in 6.3 seconds.

The standard equipment of the new Legacy includes an all-wheel drive transmission with a rear axle clutch, as well as an Active Torque Vectoring (ATV) system for controlling the thrust vector using standard brakes.

Options and prices

The start of sales of Subaru Legacy in the States fell on the fall of the nineteenth at a price of 23,000 to 36,000 dollars.

The Russian market still offers a car of the previous generation, but the demand for it turned out to be so low (202 cars for the entire nineteenth year) that the company decided to curtail supplies, so that we will not have a new generation.

As for the equipment for the sedan, the DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation system is offered, which, using a special camera in the cabin, monitors the driver.

In case of his sleepy or distracted state, she will give a special sound signal and offer to stop and rest.

In addition, the car has acquired a Front View Monitor function with a camera «on the nose», which provides a wide angle of view of 180 degrees for safe exit from tight spaces.

For a surcharge, a Harman Kardon audio system, heated steering wheel and all seats, electric front seats, LED headlights that react to steering movements, etc. are offered.
