The five-seat Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is presented in the United States.
Externally, the serial Atlas Cross Sport practically reproduces the concept of the same name from last year’s motor show in New York. By tradition, one could call the novelty a variant of the Atlas with a hatchback body. But Atlas (read, our Teramont) is too large and even with a heavily littered rear pillar remains a versatile person.

The new version has to take a place between the full-sized Atlas and Tiguan. Cross Sport will take on the role of the mid-size Tuareg, which is not represented on the US market. The estimated range of starting prices is $ 32,000–50,000 (2–3.2 million rubles).

All Atlases in the new body will be equipped with an autonomous emergency braking system and blind spots control. In expensive versions, adaptive cruise control Traffic Jam Assist is provided. With it, the car itself keeps in a strip of up to 60 km / h, stops and resumes movement if the pause does not exceed three seconds. A version with a six-cylinder engine is available with a towing package: with it, the crossover can drag up to 2270 kg.

Eight trim levels will be offered, including two R-Line Atlases, which were the first of Volkswagen to try on a new division logo. In this case, the simple R-performance and R-Line Premium differ from the usual equipment and purely cosmetic. About the modifications of the power units or the chassis are not talking. Five-seater SUVs will be assembled at the same factory in Chattanooga, where the regular Atlas and the local Passat are produced.

The mass of the novelty (the most interesting) has not yet been given, but it is logical to assume that with a shortened Cross Sport body is lighter than the standard Atlas. The dynamics are also not a word, but the journalists of the publication Car and Driver admitted behind the wheel of the prototype note that there is no more drive in the five-seat version than in the seven-seat comfort-oriented version. That with a displaced-in-line six-cylinder aspirated 3.6 and all-wheel drive weighs 2042 kg, and the claimed acceleration time to 60 miles per hour (96 km / h) is 7.9 s.

Recall that in China, a Cross-Sport-like machine called the Teramont X was introduced a little earlier. A relative from Asia is slightly different in appearance and technically. The Chinese engine lineup includes a turbo four 2.0 in two boost options: 186 hp or 220. A version V6 with a supercharged engine 2.5 EA390 develops 299 forces. As for the Russian prospects for the five-seat version, Volkswagen has not yet decided whether it is advisable to bring it to our market.
