The developers of the Volkswagen automobile concern are preparing to unveil a new conceptual electrified car, named ID. 7.

Volkswagen, through its commercial vehicle division, has unveiled the new ID Buzz minivan in a render image, which is expected to debut in 2022.

The German model will be fully electric and will receive an autonomous driving system. Because of the latter, a structure resembling a «hat» is placed on the roof of the new ID Buzz.

This decision is probably due to the fact that it is here that sensors and radars will be located, providing autonomous control.

The car has recognizable shapes. The fact is that Volkswagen designed its minivans in a similar style in the 70s. However, full copying in this case is out of the question.

The published render shows that the German novelty will have a voluminous body with smooth outlines and «piled up» back front pillars. The car will receive large optics, under which a bumper with a wide and long air intake will be placed.

On the side, the developers placed 4 compact windows at once. There are no doors and exterior mirrors in the render, replaced by cameras hidden in a structure that resembles a flashing light.

Little is known about the German novelty at the moment. The only thing that can be said with confidence now is that ID Buzz will be based on the proprietary MEB platform.

Earlier it became known that the developer of the autonomous control system for the German novelty will be Argo AI, in which Volkswagen and Ford have recently invested.

It is expected that the minivan will receive such equipment no earlier than 2025. That is, next year a new ID Buzz will be presented without an autonomous control system.

A car equipped with an I.D. Buzz, has received a large number of modern options and functions that make operation comfortable and safe.

Serial production of the car will begin in 2022. According to the data declared by the manufacturers, the car can travel up to 600 kilometers on one battery reserve.

Details about the future electric car, as well as the cost, have not yet been announced.

Recall that for the first time the concept of an electrified minivan was presented in 2017 at the International Auto Show in Detroit.

Manufacturers are confident that the car can become one of the most popular in the brand’s model range, given its good dynamic performance and environmental friendliness.

We also note that manufacturers are now working on the creation of a conceptual electrified van Volkswagen I.D. Buzz Cargo, which was first mentioned in 2018 during the IAA exhibition in Hanover.
