The electric Volkswagen ID.3 2022 was a real sales hit in Europe in its first year.

The sales launch of this car was delayed several times because of software problems. However, the sales of the car justified all the effort invested in it.

Specialists of the portal «Autostat» said that fully electric car Volkswagen ID.3 was in great demand in its first year on the European market.

It should be noted that in 2021 this car was already ordered by 144 thousand people.

And the main thing is that half of them have never owned a Volkswagen car before. It’s becoming clear that Volkswagen is very serious about what it says about Tesla shifting its position by 2025.

In Europe, it is the Volkswagen ID.3 that is the market leader, and in terms of infrastructure development, it really is the main focus right now.

If you compare it to other new models Volkswagen is bringing in an average of 36% of new customers — a lag of 14% from the ID.3 is quite significant.

At the end of August, it was the Volkswagen ID.3 which was the best-selling electric car in large markets such as Germany, Britain, Switzerland, Ireland and Austria.

We should remind you that the electric car is produced at the plants in Zwickau and Dresden. To meet the demand production works nonstop in 3 shifts, and production volume reaches 1,200 pcs per day.

An even bigger success may await the model in the autumn when it enters the Chinese car market.

The only possible problem is a shortage of electronics, which could be an obstacle to smooth production.

In the survey, Volkswagen customers said they choose the ID.3 for its lack of emissions, new technology, and subsidies from the government to buy a new car with an electric motor.

The 2021 Volkswagen ID.3 is the German company’s first electric model based on the MEB platform.

Even during the presentation of the electric car, the manufacturer announced an ambitious goal, which is set before this car.

The ID.3 should achieve the same success in its class that the Golf has been showing for years. Two electric motors that develop up to 150 or 204 hp and are mounted on the rear axle should help the electric hatchback achieve similar results.

The German novelty offered for a minimum of 2.87 million rubles (hereinafter the prices are translated into Russian currency at the current exchange rate), is equipped by default with several driving aids, including a system of people recognition, LED lights and multimedia.

In the top versions appear climate control equipment, all-around cameras, more comfortable seats and other options.

Technical Specifications

The German model stands out against the background of existing cars optimal configuration of the body: its aerodynamic drag coefficient is 0.267.

This figure is unattainable today for many sports cars. The Volkswagen ID.3 is 4,261 mm long with a wheelbase of 2,765 mm.

The width of the electric hatchback reaches 1,809 mm, height — 1,568 mm.

The basis of the car is the company’s platform MEB, providing for the placement of McPherson struts in the front and the rear independent multilever suspension.

The standard German model is equipped with 150 hp electric motor which develops up to 275 N*h of torque and combined with an automatic transmission.

It comes with a choice of 44 and 58 kWh batteries. Cruising range of the German novelty in the basic modifications does not exceed 250-426 kilometers depending on the nature of driving and operating conditions.

The top versions have an electric motor with a maximum output of 204 hp and a thrust of 310 N*m.

This engine is combined with a 77-kilowatt battery, allowing to drive up to 526 kilometers without recharging.

Both power units are mounted on the rear axle. It takes 7.5 hours to charge each of the listed batteries from the home grid.

Design

The Volkswagen ID.3 stands out for its sleek forms. This body configuration is largely due to the developers’ desire to reduce aerodynamic drag as much as possible, allowing for greater range performance.

In connection with this, the German model has strongly sloped front pillars, and the hood is placed at a steep angle to the front.

The LED headlights, which have trapezoidal outlines, are connected by a thin LED strip. The German model has no radiator grille, but is equipped with a fairly large air intake extending the entire length of the front bumper.

The front end, as well as sloping roof, is painted in black. At the same time, the rear bumper has the same shade as the rest of the body.

Rear optics is partially covered by a luggage compartment door, the volume of which is 385 liters.

The interior of the German model is designed in a minimalist style.

Virtually all the controls for onboard electronics are placed on the steering wheel and a large touchscreen monitor, under which a few physical keys are located.

The transmission tunnel in the hatchback is reserved for additional compartments for small items.
