Overview and details of the new body (generation)

The millions of Volkswagen Polo sedans loved by millions of motorists, which are currently being produced in Russia, have the heir to the 2020 model year.
It is still being produced in Brazil, while experts consider the new generation Volkswagen Polo 2020 to be something between the local Voyage and Jetta sedans.

New Polo for Russia will be created on the basis of a new generation Virtus model. The designers used the modular platform MQB-A0 with a borrowed power unit, steering gear and electrics as a basis.

Engineers redesigned the chassis from scratch, although the configuration remained the same. The front chassis is represented by McPherson struts, while the rear is semi-independent.

Even the Volkswagen Polo 2020 sedan’s mid-pillars are identical to Latin American models. Virtus also has an unchanged silhouette of the Polo sedan, which received additional windows of the rear pillars, and performed stern as the predecessors of the brand, replacing the vertical lights with horizontal ones.

Compared with the Kaluga current sedans Polo, the new model has become more overall. The length of the car has increased by 9 cm (448 instead of 439), and the width — by 5 cm (175 instead of 170).

The distance between the wheels is 265 cm (10 cm more than the Volkswagen Polo of the Russian assembly), which corresponds to the parameters of the current Jetta model. The height of the Brazilian sedan is the same as its predecessor — 147 cm.

Volkswagen Polo 2020 engineers slightly changed the body structure, increasing the share of high-strength steel. The trunk has an official volume of 521 liters, which is 61 more than the Kaluga model. At the same time, the gas tank of the Brazilian sedan became slightly smaller — 52 liters instead of 55.

Salon

Volkswagen Polo 2020 has an almost identical interior when compared to the European hatchback. A more expensive car is equipped with the same eight-inch multimedia screen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Also, engineers left the virtual instrument cluster unchanged. If we consider the basic configuration of sedans, then the music system is simpler (with the usual dial scales). For the convenience of passengers in the back row, the manufacturer of the Brazilian model Polo-hatchback has provided several additional air ducts located between the backs of the front row of seats.

Technical stuffing

According to Volkswagen, the new Polo 2020 will appear on the Russian market with two engines. The sedan will be equipped with a familiar 1.6-liter aspirated as standard.

This power unit is capable of running on gasoline and ethanol (this fuel is very common in Latin America). In the first case, the engine power will be 110 horsepower or 155 Nm, and in the second — 117 “horses” and 162 Nm. These sedan versions can only have a five-speed manual gearbox.

If we consider the Volkswagen Polo 2020 in the Comfortline and Highline trim levels, then under the hood there will be an accelerated turbo-engine 1.0 TSI, which gives out power of 116/128 “horses” (when using gasoline and ethanol) and 200 Nm.

This power unit only works in conjunction with the classic six-speed “automatic”. Unfortunately, there is no information about the “robot” DSG yet.

Volkswagen Polo 2020 sedans with turbo engines can reach 100 km / h in 9.9 seconds, while the maximum speed is 194 km / h.

At the moment, there is no other information about the equipment of sedans. It is only known that the Brazilian version will be equipped with four airbags, and only models with a turbo engine will have a stabilization system.
