Volkswagen has announced a huge Talagon crossover: even the Teramont is smaller.

At the moment, the Teramont is the largest crossover of the Volkswagen brand, but the Talagon SUV was certified in China the other day, which has even more impressive dimensions.

The Volkswagen Talagon is a serial version of the SMV Concept show car, first shown in April two thousand nineteen, and on the way to the assembly line, the model has hardly changed.

There are no photos of the salon yet, but it is unlikely that its design will be radically different from other modern models of the brand.

Structurally, Talagon is a functional analogue of the aforementioned Teramont. Both vehicles are built on the same chassis and also have an identical wheelbase (2,980 mm).

At the same time, the dimensions of the body of the novelty are still more impressive. In length the car reaches 5,152 mm (+ 113), in width — 2,002 (+ 13), in height — 1,795 (+ 22).

According to the certificate, the new model will be offered in China with a 2.0-liter TSI turbo engine, which local Teramont also rely on. In the basic version, such a motor produces 186 hp, the thrust is transmitted to the wheels of the front axle.

The unit in a more powerful 220-horsepower version comes with an all-wheel drive transmission.

It is likely that then the large crossover will also receive a 2.5-liter «turbo six» TSI, which is again familiar from the Chinese Teramont.

This unit will go to the sporty version of the R-Line. The new VW Talagon will be produced at the FAW Volkswagen joint venture, with the official premiere of the SUV scheduled for April 2021.

The largest SUV of the German brand has almost completely retained the design of its forerunner. The novelty shared the technique with Teramont.

Volkswagen unveiled the SMV concept at the Shanghai Motor Show two years ago, followed by a series of spy shots from prototype testing, both in camouflage and without camouflage.

And now, finally, the commercial embodiment is fully disclosed: the photographs and characteristics of the model were added to the base of the «celestial» Ministry of Industry.

The crossover was named Talagon and is being produced at a joint venture plant between FAW and Volkswagen.

Recall that the closest relative of this SUV is Teramont, which produces another joint venture for the Chinese market — SAIC Volkswagen.

Externally, a serial SUV is practically no different from a show car. Design features — headlights merged with a radiator grille, exterior mirrors on separate legs and taillights made in the form of a single plate.

The interior of the concept was not shown, in the photo of the certification body it is also not there, but the previously ubiquitous paparazzi still managed to look into the salon, the main «chips» — a virtual «tidy», a two-story center console and a small joystick instead of the traditional gear lever.

The crossover will be offered in a three-row design.

Talagon deprived Teramont of the title of the largest SUV of the brand: the length of the novelty is 5152 mm, which is 113 mm more than that of the pre-reform Chinese Teramont (the restyled length is 5052 mm, but such a cross is not yet sold), the width is 2002 mm instead of 1989 mm. height — 1795 mm versus 1773 mm.

But the wheelbase of the cars is the same — 2980 mm.

In the documents of the Ministry of Industry, only one engine has been found so far, and it is the same as that of the local Teramont: VW Talagon will be available with a gasoline «turbo four» 2.0 TSI with a capacity of 186 or 220 hp.

A Teramont with the basic version of this engine is only front-wheel drive, an SUV with a 220-horsepower version has four-wheel drive.

Meanwhile, in China, for Teramont, a V6 2.5 TSI engine with a return of 299 hp is also provided. — most likely, Talagon will get one. The box is also probably one for two — a robotic DQ500 with two clutches.

Volkswagen Talagon will premiere in April — apparently, again at an exhibition in Shanghai. It will enter the market before the end of this year.

Most likely, the crossover will be more expensive than its sister Teramont. The latter in the Celestial Empire today costs from 299,900 yuan, which is equivalent to about 3,410,000 rubles at the current exchange rate.
