Waiting for the «electric cars»: the new Abarth 1000 SP will become a production car after all.

The Abarth 1000 SP based on the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider presented in May this year turned out to be not such a piece — there will be five copies made at a cost of about 200 thousand euros each.

The electromobile strategy of the Stellantis corporation which includes Abarth supposes that in 2024 the Italian sports brand will completely switch to electric cars and will forget about internal combustion engines which elaboration, actually, she became famous for.

Abarth will not have full-fledged novelties until 2024 — the buyers will have to be satisfied with a few sporty variations on the theme of Fiat 500, and then master the electrotechnics.

The pause before the change of epochs is intended to be partially filled by the «conservative» project of the new Abarth 1000 SP, about which we spoke in detail in May.

In spring the new Abarth 1000 SP was presented as a piece car for all sorts of retrospective events, but yesterday British Auto Italia Magazine (as you can understand from the name, it is dedicated to Italian cars) published on its Twitter an announcement of the fresh issue and its exclusive topic — the upcoming small-scale production of Abarth 1000 SP.

Sensational news for fans of the Italian car industry was told to British colleagues by Roberto Giolito, who was responsible for the design of the car.

We shall remind you that the new Abarth 1000 SP was created as a tribute to the Spyder of the same name from the middle of the 60s with a «liter» engine from Fiat 600 forced up to 105 hp. The letters SP in the name stand for Sport Prototipo and mean that the model was designed for racing, but in accordance with the homologation rules of that time Abarth made 50 copies for public roads.

The classic Spyder 1000 SP is based on the original space tube frame, and the modern model is remade from the Alfa Romeo 4C Spider, production of which ended a year ago.

Apparently, Abarth has reserved a few copies for the conversions to please fans and collectors with a surprise novelty at some point.

Carbon fiber monocoque Alfa got new plumage in the style of the classical Abarth 1000 SP, but the technical filling is probably the same as in the donor — 1.75-liter gasoline «turbo four» (240 hp, 350 Nm) coupled with a six-speed «automatic» DCT type (with two clutches).

It is not excluded that the new Abarth 1000 SP will get some «dope» to justify a considerable price — for 200,000 euros today you can buy, for example, a 580 hp Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet or two Porsche 718 Spyder (420 hp).
