New generation Acura MDX crossover: production version.
In fact, this crossover debuted two months ago, but formally then Prototype was shown.

The serial version has arrived just now, although hardly anyone will find even the notorious ten differences from the October prototype.

Nevertheless, this time the company has declassified almost all of the characteristics.

In the fourth generation, the Acura MDX has moved to the same new platform as the recently unveiled TLX sedan.

Its main feature is the double wishbone front suspension instead of McPherson struts.

The multi-link has been preserved at the back, but both stretchers are new, more rigid. There was also an electric brake booster instead of a vacuum one.

The crossover has acquired more noble proportions, because the «distance of prestige» between the front axle and the engine shield has grown by more than 100 mm.

The wheelbase has been increased from 2819 mm to 2891 mm. And the crossover itself has grown in all directions:

length — 5039 mm (plus 56 mm),
width — 1999 mm (plus 25 mm),
height — 1704 mm (plus 15 mm).

The base wheels are now 19-inch instead of the previous «eighteenth».

The new MDX crossover became the first Akura with virtual instruments, because even the latest TLX and RDX models have analog scales.

The Acura Precision Cockpit has a 12.3-inch screen and several display options to choose from.

The same dimension and the display of the media system, and Acura has remained faithful to the touchpad on the central tunnel, from which control is carried out. In addition, there is a 10.5-inch projection screen.

The MDX model retains a three-row cabin, and all riders have a little more space. And buyers will not have a painful choice between a solid rear sofa and «captain’s» chairs.

Acura has developed a convertible sofa with a folding and removable middle section. The owner can make the second row three-seater, turn the center section into an armrest, or completely dismantle it, freeing up the central aisle.

Aluminum, Milano leather and wood are used in the interior decoration, and the front seats will have a vibration massager with nine operating modes.

A panoramic roof comes standard, and options include a 1000-watt ELS Studio 3D audio system with twenty-five speakers.

Trunk volume behind the third row has grown from 419 to 462 liters (according to the American EPA method). And the maximum volume of the compartment with the second and third row seats folded now reaches 2022 liters versus 1937 liters for the previous model.

The aspirated V6 3.5 gasoline remained the base, and its output did not change (294 hp, 362 Nm).

Among the minor improvements are active shutters in front of the radiator, which open only at the command of the electronics. But the nine-speed “automatic” was replaced by a new ten-speed unit with a push-button control panel and paddles on the steering wheel, which is capable of switching four gears up or down at once.

The basic version has front-wheel drive, for a surcharge — a proprietary SH-AWD transmission of the fourth generation with individual couplings for connecting the rear wheels.

The new Acura MDX will go on sale in the US market in February, prices ranging from $ 46,900 for the base front-wheel drive version to $ 60,650 for a car with all-wheel drive and all options.

By the way, from now on, the crossover will take on the role of the flagship, because the large Acura RLX sedan has been retired without an heir.

And in the summer of 2021, the range will be expanded. There will be a «hot» Acura MDX Type S — the first crossover in the history of the brand with such a prefix.

Under the hood, there will be a direct injection V6 3.0 turbo engine that develops 360 hp. and 480 Nm.

The ten-speed automatic and SH-AWD transmission are the same, but reconfigured, plus a recalibrated suspension, four-piston Brembo brakes and 21-inch wheels.

By the way, in the third generation, the MDX model had a hybrid modification, but the company has not even announced a replacement for it yet.
