The Aspark Owl hypercar has become much more powerful and slightly cheaper.
The fastest-accelerating car on the planet …
Japan’s crazy electro hypercar

Three years ago, debuted as a concept, Aspark Owl. In the past, many supercars showed great promise but failed to live up to it. Therefore, most were skeptical about the launch of the Japanese supercar — Aspark Owl, but he proved that all doubts were in vain

The production version of this electric hypercar debuted last year at the international motor show in Dubai, and the first copies are preparing to go to their new owners this fall.

During the summer, the Aspark Owl was tested at the Misano World Circuit, where it was able to accelerate to 100 km / h in just 1.72 seconds when fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires.

When we first announced this project, no one believed it was possible: it is true that we do not have a long history, but we are now completing what is Japan’s first electric hypercar, said Aspark CEO Yoshida.

Aspark Owl — Proof of our vision, skills and engineering capabilities. This is what we do at Aspark: we think outside the box and explore new, undeniable territories, regardless of the circumstances.

“We are really looking forward to bringing Owl to our first customers: they will experience a whole different level of control and acceleration,” Yoshida continued.

“We have poured even more resources and engineers into this project, and from now on Aspark will do its best to continue to grow and deliver incredible vehicles to customers around the world,” Yoshida said.

The Aspark Owl has four electric motors with a total power of 1984 horsepower and a torque of 1999.83 Nm. Combined with a lightweight carbon fiber body that reduces curb weight to 1899.64kg, 0-60mph takes just 1.69 seconds, making the Aspark Owl the fastest-accelerating car on earth.

It is also the lowest road electric hypercar at just 98.81 centimeters tall. Only 50 units are under construction, each costing $ 3.43 million.

Length, width, height and base of the model are equal to 4791, 1935, 993 (lower suspension position) and 2750 mm. The dry weight is 1900 kg. There is a trunk for 50 liters.

The Japanese electric hypercar Aspark Owl went through several stages on the way to the series: from a test prototype and a pre-production sample in 2017 to an upgraded version in 2018.

At the same time, the output increased (from 435 HP, 764 N • m to 1166 HP, 885 N • m). But, as it turned out, even these were inconclusive figures. Recently, the Japanese showed pictures and revealed all the characteristics of the Owl, which buyers will begin to receive in the second quarter of 2020.

The total power of the electric motors was increased to 2012 hp, and the total torque — up to 2000 N • m. The developers brought the final version to the Dubai auto show yesterday.

The car uses a carbon fiber monocoque and hydraulic double wishbone suspension with manual or automatic ride height adjustment (80 to 160 mm). Brakes: Carbon-ceramic discs with ten- and four-piston calipers (front / rear).

The authors of the hypercar declare acceleration from zero to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 1.69 seconds (the Japanese call this a record for road cars on road tires) and to a hundred in 1.9 seconds.

In addition, acceleration from zero to 300 km / h takes 10.6 s, and the maximum speed of the Aspark Owl coupe is now 400 km / h (in the first versions it was only 280). By the way, tires with dimensions 265/35 R20 and 325/30 R21 (front / rear) are used here; Choose from Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2-R or Pirelli XL P Zero.

Wheels of this size look especially impressive given the fact that we have one of the lowest closed road cars in the world, if not the lowest (recall, the height of the coupe is 993 mm).

The two-seater cabin has four screens (three in the tidy and one on the console). There are climate control, navigation, a mode switch (sport-dynamic, rain-snow, city-comfort, high boost), a multimedia system that is “friendly” with smartphones.

The cruising range on one charge in the final version is declared at 450 km according to the NEDC cycle (in the first samples there were 150 and 300 km).

I wonder what happened to the price. Initially, it was 3.0 million euros, later the Japanese raised the bar to 3.1 million, and now suddenly the price was lower: «only» 2.9 million euros (205 million rubles).

The company plans to release 50 copies of the Owl. Fifteen have already been ordered. Interestingly, the Italian company Manifattura Automobili Torino, known for its participation in a number of projects of small-scale sports, super- and hypercars, will be engaged in the assembly of cars for customers under the contract.

Sow has an 800-volt lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 64 kWh and a nominal capacity of 1300 kW, which charges from a 44-kilowatt port in 80 minutes. There are four electric motors (each is responsible for its own wheel), they are synchronous, on permanent magnets and allow the traction vectorization to be realized.

There are not many electric cars of close recoil on the market. You can remember Lotus Evija (2000 hp, 1700 N • m, acceleration to one hundred in less than three seconds) and Rimac C_Two (1914 hp, 2300 N • m, acceleration to one hundred in 1.97 s), which cost £ 1.7 million and € 1.8 million, respectively.

Technically, Pininfarina Battista, akin to Rimatz (1903 hp, 2300 N • m, acceleration to one hundred in less than two seconds) will cost buyers a comparable amount, approximately two million dollars.

The Owl’s design has not changed much, but ordinary mirrors have appeared (they, however, are equipped, in addition, with cameras that give a picture for tidy).

An important new thing: a retractable wing instead of the previous static one, which stood on high pylons. Active aerodynamics are one of the factors for increasing the range and top speed.

Only the Tesla Roadster model, which is claimed to accelerate to 60 mph (97 km / h) in 1.9 seconds, costs significantly less — $ 200,000 in the regular series and $ 250,000 for the first thousand copies of the so-called Founder’s Series.

However, the company has not yet shown the Tesla Roadster in its final form (only a prototype) and has not even disclosed the final characteristics, although it is already accepting orders and deposits.
