Audi Q9 2022. Audi Q9: all the details about the largest and most expensive crossover.
More than 5 meters long, a motor with a capacity of over 500 horsepower and an autopilot for the track — what will be the new flagship Audi Q9 crossover.

Audi is preparing to release a new large crossover: the Q9 index has already been registered by the company in European and international patent offices, and industry insiders talk about the full progress of work on the car and its imminent launch on the market.

Very large outside and inside.

The exact overall dimensions of the novelty are not yet available, but it is already known that the length of the car will be over 5.2 meters, the width will exceed 2 meters, and the wheelbase is 3 meters.

For comparison, the current flagship Q7 has dimensions of 5060 mm x 1970 mm x 2990 mm. That is, the novelty will be even larger.

This is not surprising, however, as the Q9 should compete with the BMW X7, Mercedes GLS, Range Rover LWB and Cadillac Escalade.

The interior can be ordered in various versions, but the main thing is that the huge dimensions will make it possible to arrange the interior for 7 full-fledged seats.

In addition, luxurious interior designs with two separate seats in the second row will also be available.

The exterior of the car will be made in the style of all models of the off-road Audi Q-line, but the body form factor will be traditional for a large crossover with a large luggage compartment and a slight angle of inclination of the rear pillars.

Earlier in the media, there were suggestions that the upcoming Q9 could be a coupe-crossover and get a body with a falling roofline, but these rumors have not been confirmed.

The Audi A9 will be based on an upgraded version of the MLB Evo platform that already underpins the Q7, VW Touareg, Porsche Cayenne, Bentley Bentayga and Lamborghini Urus.

The modernization will primarily affect the change in the geometry of the suspensions due to different attachment points to the body, as well as the possibility of introducing gasoline power plants with mild hybrid technology with an additional 48-volt network on board into the architecture.

Now this technology in the MLB Evo platform has been implemented only on diesel versions of the Q7, as well as on hybrid versions of the Porsche Cayenne.

In addition, the Q9 will receive an adaptive chassis with pneumatic suspensions, which will allow the car to adjust the ground clearance, as well as change the characteristics of the dampers depending on the selected driving mode.

The quattro all-wheel drive system will be implemented in the same way as on the current Q7: the Torsen differential will be responsible for the distribution of traction between the axles.

The simplified quattro ultra drivetrain with an electronically controlled multi-plate clutch will not be able to handle the impressive torque of the powerful motors under the Q9’s bonnet.

The engine lineup will include both gasoline and supercharged diesel engines.

The initial versions will receive diesel «sixes» with a return from 231 to 286 hp.

The supercharged V6 petrol engine will develop 340 hp. There will also be hybrid versions with combined engines — both diesel and gasoline internal combustion engines, the power of which will vary from 380 to 450 horsepower.

In addition, a sports version of the SQ9 will appear, under the hood of which a 4-liter diesel with an electric turbine developing 435 hp or a supercharged petrol V8 4.0 producing 507 hp will be installed.

Moreover, it is possible that an RS-version of the crossover may appear in the future, under the hood of which a motor with a capacity of over 600 forces will be installed.

In this case, all engines will be paired with an 8-speed ZF automatic.

Advanced equipment

The flagship will receive the most advanced equipment available from the Audi brand.

This includes a new media system with voice assistant Alexa from Amazon, and adaptive matrix headlights, and an optional laser headlight.

However, the Q9 will get something else especially that we haven’t seen on Audi vehicles before.

We are talking about a very advanced set of driving assistants, including highway autopilot.

It will be based on an upgraded version of the adaptive cruise control and the proprietary audi pre sense collision avoidance system, which at speeds up to 130 km / h are able to completely take control of the car.

In this driving mode, the recognition systems of road markings and signs will also be connected.

The first will allow the car to steer on its own in small steep turns, and the second will monitor compliance with the speed limit.

In addition, such an assistant will be able to independently rebuild from lane to lane and overtake passing vehicles.

When Q9 appears

Initially, it was assumed that the new car will be presented in mid-2021, but now this information is increasingly rejected.

Most likely, the car will be shown only at the beginning of next year, and it will not go on sale until mid-2022.

As for the prices, they will be at the level of the main competitors, among which, as we have already mentioned, will be the BMW X7 and Mercedes GLS.

The initial cost of the crossover will be about 88,000 — 90,000 euros, which in terms of rubles is about 7.8 — 8 million rubles.

The cost of the top versions in the maximum configuration can be 140,000 — 160,000 euros (about 12 — 14 million rubles).

It is possible that the most lavishly equipped and richly finished versions of the car with a layout with two separate seats in the second row will be offered under the Horch sub-brand, which the Ingolstadt-based company intends to revive.
