Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport 2022. Bugatti has dedicated the Chiron Pur Sport hypercar to the race up La Turbie hill near Monaco.

Bugatti is recreating the 1922 Type 13 victory on the ascent of La Turbie hill with the Chiron Pur Sport.

The 6.3 km long track called La Turbie had rather difficult terrain: it ran on sandy, rocky roads, generously dotted with potholes.

It was this climb that Jean Mabius decided to conquer with a Bugatti Type 13.

The event was first held at the Nice Speed Week in 1897, this race being the first ever hill climb.

The Type 13 that participated in this historic race first appeared on the roads in 1911, and due to its combination of lightweight bodywork and rugged construction, it came in second place at the French Grand Prix the same year.

After World War I, production resumed in 1919.

At this time Bugatti equipped the model with a 1.3-liter engine with a four-valve cylinder head, making it the first car ever to use this technology.

From 1920 it was improved with dual ignition and ball bearings in the crankshaft for smoother running.

Its displacement was increased to 1.5 liters, which made it capable of 49 hp. Weighing only 490, the Type 13 was capable of speeds up to 150 km/h.

Thanks to its technological prowess, it quickly dominated motorsport, winning the French Grand Prix and finishing 20 minutes ahead of its competitors at Le Mans. And he went on to win in his early 20s.

Indeed, at La Turbie in 1922, under the direction of Jean Mabille, this titled mole managed to complete the climb in just six minutes and 24 seconds, giving it victory.

Today, a modern-day Bugatti Chiron Pur Sport has taken to the same track to celebrate the 100th anniversary of that victory.
