The automaker decided to celebrate the anniversary of the iconic sports car with the premiere of the Corvette E-Ray hybrid, the main feature of which is all-wheel drive.

The novelty was presented in two body types: as a roadster with a folding top and a targa that has removable roof panels.

It differs from the existing versions of the model by different shape of the front and side air intakes.

Plus the car got new bumpers and grilles at the rear. It was put on the wheels of the original design, and the color palette was expanded due to several new shades.

But from the interior features of the gasoline-electric two-door, the only thing worth mentioning is the revised graphics of the displays and the appearance of a couple of additional buttons.

The Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray 2024 has an extended body of 2,025 mm (like the Corvette Z06), while the base sports car has a width of 1,933 mm.

The presented novelty is the first version of the model to get all-wheel drive: it has a hybrid powertrain with separate axle drive (eAWD).

By the way, similar installations have been installed on civilian models for a long time, but they have other arrangement of units — with an electric motor on the rear axle.

According to the developers, the installation of hybrid superstructure almost has not affected the volume of the front luggage compartment — it is designed for 355 liters (- 2). At the back, the usual 70-liter gas tank was preserved.

Note that the Americans have chosen 6.2-liter atmospheric LT2 V8, which is familiar from the Corvette Stingray with the Z51 package.

Being installed behind the seats, this engine produces 502 hp (637 Nm).

It works in tandem with the standard eight-band dual-clutch robot, which sends power to the rear axle.

At low loads, it has half of its cylinders cut off, which contributes to additional fuel economy.

At the front, a compact module of a 163-horsepower (165 Nm) electric motor and a single-stage gearbox is installed.

It is located in the central tunnel between the seats and has a capacity of only 1.9 kWh.

Its charge can be replenished solely by means of recuperation. In addition, the developers provide a special driving preset Charge+, in which battery charging is forced.

There is also Stealth mode, in which the car works only on electric traction and is able to drive silently. Its top speed is limited to 72 km/h.

As for the dynamic characteristics, from 0-60 mph (97 km/h) hybrid Corvette is able to accelerate in 2.5 seconds, and when you move the electric motor actively helps the engine.

That’s 0.4 seconds faster than the base model, although the latter is noticeably lighter — its dry weight is 1,530 kg, while the gasoline-electric novelty weighs 1,712 kg.

The all-wheel drive two-door makes a quarter mile distance (402 meters) in 10.5 seconds, reaching speeds up to 209 km/h.

The Corvette E-Ray will debut in the U.S. market in the second half of the twenty-third.

It will be possible to buy the hybrid two-door for $102,900 (7.1 million rubles at the current exchange rate).
