Fiat Tipo 2022.

Fiat is preparing a new «elevated» station wagon for Europe.

The five-door novelty of the Italian brand is expected to arrive in dealerships in the first half of 2022.

Fiat Tipo actual generation appeared in 2015 (we remind, in the 80s of the last century in the brand’s range there was already a model with such name).

First on the market came out a sedan, and in 2016, the range was complemented by a hatchback and a station wagon.

At the end of last year, the Italian brand introduced an updated version of the Tipo (in all body styles), as well as expanded the family due to the cross-version of the hatchback.

Note that sales of the Fiat Tipo in the Old World market have been declining since 2018.

Thus, at the end of the «covid» 2020 customers bought a total of 53,452 units, which is 37% less than the year before.

For comparison, in 2017 the model figure was 123,762 units.

This year there is still a negative trend, although not so noticeable: in January-September European dealers sold 31,648 cars, which is 18% less than in the first three quarters of 2020.

It is expected that in the relatively near future the family of current Fiat Tipo will be expanded by another cross-version, this time a station wagon.

As reported by the Spanish edition motor.es, Fiat Tipo Cross SW can get to dealerships in Europe in the first half of next year.

Earlier, a prototype in camouflage has already been caught during road tests.

While there are no official pictures of the future «raised» Tipo wagon has not been published.

This gave the opportunity for artists to fantasize about the exterior of the cross-version «shed». The designer offered his own version.

Judging by the rendering, the standard station wagon of the model updated last year was taken as the basis. At that, «pseudo off-road» elements by analogy with Tipo Cross hatchback were added to it.

The cross-door has a grille with a different pattern (it looks like a grid, whereas the standard versions have short horizontal lines).

The perimeter of the body the lower part of the car is protected by plastic dodgers: the main part is in black and some elements are in silver. There are rails on the roof.

Images of the future novelty of the Italian brand’s stern and interior are not yet available, although the interior is likely to be the same as that of other representatives of the family.

It is expected that Fiat Tipo Cross SW will get reconfigured suspension and will be shod in high-profile tires.

In the end, as well as the cross-hatchback, the ground clearance of such «shed» compared to the standard station wagon will grow by almost 40 mm.

No surprises are expected in the engine range. Recall that the range of actual Tipo includes 1.0-liter «turbo» GSE T3 from FireFly Turbo lineup, its output is 100 hp and maximum torque is 190 Nm.

In addition, the model is offered with 1.3 Multijet II (95 hp) and 1.6 Multijet II (130 hp) turbodiesels.

They are paired with a five- and six-speed manual gearbox.

The starting price of cross-hatchback Tipo in Italy to date stands at 13,900 euros (equivalent to about 1.15 million rubles at current exchange rates), the cost of Fiat Tipo Cross SW will be known later.
