The Ford GT turned out to be unlike any model previously released by the «Blue Oval» company, which attracted increased public attention, and already in 1965 it began to break records for speed and lap times on the same famous French track.

After the victory of the crew of Chris Amon and Bruce McLaren, the Ford GT40 Mark II, equipped with a 7.0-liter carburetor V8 with a capacity of 460 hp. with. not only went down in history, but also became a real icon for the American company, to which the manufacturer likes to return from time to time, making various replicas of his winning sports car.

Another surprise Ford is preparing right now: The 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition will be unveiled at Monterey Car Week in California on August 12, which, according to the developers, will pay tribute to the GT’64 model and showcase Ford’s rich supercar heritage.

First of all, it will be expressed in the characteristic blue and white paintwork of the car — the same one that was used in the 1966 Le Mans, so iconic for the American company.

On the show floor, the Heritage Edition will be beside the legendary sports car, which for Ford remains “one of the most significant vehicles in the company’s history”.

At the same time, the new conqueror of the racetrack will also demonstrate all its merits, in particular, a modern sports body kit made of carbon fiber.

This material is known to have been used to create the front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, mirror pillars and 20-inch rims.

The interior is finished in Lightspeed Blue Alcantara with silver stitching and GT logos on the headrests.

The dashboard is trimmed in blue-gray Ebony leather, while the steering wheel, side pillars and headliner are in the same color Alcantara.

Specifications Ford GT Heritage Edition will be revealed during the exhibition, but thanks to rumors under the skin of the engine compartment of this car has already «found» an upgraded 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6, which can develop from 700 to 760 hp. with.

Ford has announced the imminent launch of a limited edition ’64 Prototype Heritage Edition of the current GT coupe, dedicated to the only original Ford GT prototype.

These supercars will feature unique body and interior trims, but how many special GTs will be assembled, Ford has not yet specified.

The supercar will be painted in the same color combination that the 1964 prototype wears — a combination of white and blue with longitudinal «racing» stripes.

The 20-inch carbon rims will also be blue, but the other elements of the carbon-fiber body kit — and this is the splitter, side skirts, engine cover and diffuser — will remain unpainted.

The interior of the coupe is trimmed with carbon fiber and upholstered in blue Alcantara and leather, although black inserts will also appear in the cabin.

In total, in 1964, Ford built five copies of the future GT40 with chassis numbers from 101 to 105.

However, the first two copies were written off after accidents on race tracks, while cars with numbers 103 and 104, which are now kept in museums, were repainted.

The new limited edition Ford GT could be the last special edition in the model’s biography. Ford is seriously considering ending production of the supercar after the 2022 model year.
