Hyundai plans to revive the Aslan name for a new premium sedan.

The Korean automaker is developing a new premium sedan for which it plans to revive the sonorous name Aslan. This information is shared by TheKoreanCarBlog with reference to its source.

The original Hyundai Aslan rolled off the assembly line between 2014 and 2018. In Turkish, «Aslan» means «Lion.»

The length of the car reached the mark of 4.96 meters. The model was considered the ideological successor of the flagship Dynasty, which was produced from 1996 to 2005.

Under the hood of that Aslan was a V6 gasoline engine with a capacity from 266 to 290 hp.

These cars were produced only for four years. The automaker was going to sell not less than 18,000 of these cars per month, but in fact the dealers did not manage to pass the mark of a thousand copies.

The new Hyundai Aslan in the actual lineup of automaker will be located above Grandeur.

With this model the novelty will share front-wheel drive platform and also motors.

Most likely, the new sedan will receive a 2,5-liter 200-powered petrol engine, and also 3,0-liter and 3,3-liter V6 with 235 and 290 h.p. of capacity, respectively. It is not reported when exactly we can expect new Hyundai Aslan.

According to preliminary information, the new Korean sedan may be introduced next year.

In 2014, Hyundai introduced on the market the flagship sedan Aslan, which became one of the longest cars of the Korean brand.

But the demand for this model turned out to be insignificant. Therefore, only four years after its introduction, the sedan left the market.

But the Korean media reports that soon will debut a new Hyundai Aslan, which will be larger than the current Grandeur and will again take the place of the flagship model.

According to an official statement, the Korean sedan will be based on Hyundai’s standard platform.

The Aslan will share the basis with the current Grandeur. Its length will be about 4960 mm. That is, it will be larger than the Grandeur only by 5 cm.

This information slightly contradicts the previously published data.

A few weeks ago, South Korean media reported that the next-generation Grandeur being developed now will extend more than 5 meters in length. Because of this it turns out that Hyundai reconsidered its plans for this model.

Both cars will share not only the platform, but also the technical part.

The new Aslan will be equipped by default with a 3-liter engine that develops up to 235 hp.

Perhaps this model will receive a more compact 2.5-liter unit with 198 horsepower.

In addition, the new Aslan will be equipped with a 3.3-liter engine that develops up to 290 hp. However, Hyundai did not comment on the technical part of the future flagship.

The first-generation Aslan, despite its status, has always sold limited editions.

With a plan of 22 thousand copies Hyundai annually sold about 1,8 thousand units of this sedan. That is, the car turned out to be a failure for the Korean brand.
