Hyundai Palisade 2020

Hyundai Palisade 2020. We value minivans for their unmatched utility and passenger comfort. But there are many people who are stopped by the purchase of such a car technical specifications or appearance. For them, a modern three-row mid-size SUV is an alternative. And an option that is definitely worth considering is the new Hyundai Palisade 2020 model year.

The 2018 Hyundai Palisade may be late for a fashion party. But Hyundai took this opportunity to take a good look at what potential customers want, dodging minivans. The Palisade 2020 replaces the attractive Sante Fe XL, which is about to end. Mission # 1 in designing the Palisade 2020 seems to be: “Make it bigger!” The Palisade 2020 is far superior to its predecessor. It is 7.5 cm longer and more than 9 cm wider, and this adds as much as 10 cm between its front and rear wheels.

King size

The extremely large Salon Palisade 2020 now easily accommodates 180 cm tall passengers anywhere. It has 510 liters of cargo space behind the third row of seats or 1300 liters with the second row folded. If you compare the Palisade 2020 with competitors, then its distance between the second and third rows is the most spacious offer of the segment.

Subjectively, the Palisade 2020 is also felt as one of the most spacious SUVs. It well distributes the interior volume using a well-thought-out design that simultaneously frees up luggage space and helps to emphasize the comfort of the interior space. One notable example is the new push-button gear selector. It looks elegant, but it saves a ton of space in the front, opening up a large storage area between the front seats.

The second row can be equipped with a pull-out and folding sofa for three passengers or a pair of seats (with heating and ventilation for an additional fee). Entrance to the third row is facilitated thanks to the push-button access on the seats of the second row. The resulting through space is relatively wide. The seat cushions of the last row are located slightly higher than average, providing better comfort for the legs, while maintaining an amazing reserve in height above the heads of passengers.

There is definitely an atmosphere of luxury in the cabin, thanks to quilted and perforated leather in the top configuration. The abundance of cup holders — 16, to be precise — ensures that each drink also finds its place. Hidden cup holders in the front of the car provide versatility for the storage box between the driver and the passenger on the right.

Hyundai Palisade 2020

Impeccable road manners

The Palisade 2020, which was equipped with the maximum equipment that we took for a test drive, represented mainly what we are likely to see in Russia. The big exception was the engine. The driving force of our car was a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel, which will not be offered in our country. Instead, we get a new 3.8-liter V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Hyundai’s preliminary power ratings say this V6 develops 291 horsepower and 355 Nm of torque, which puts the Palisade 2020 at the top of its class. It should also move along the road pretty well, based on weight estimates ranging from 1935 kg to 1955 kg. Given these numbers, we are curious how vibrant the V6 will feel at low revs, as it will play a decisive role in making this large SUV easily accelerated.

Palisade 2020 drives standard 18-inch wheels, and you can get 20-inch wheels on higher trim levels. The 20-inch wheels of our test car provided pretty comfortable ride quality for two days. They also worked well during maneuvers with car rolls on broken roads, through which we were led to demonstrate relatively commendable body control in the Palisade 2020. We suspect that smaller wheels with a higher sidewall may provide better ride quality on uneven surfaces.

Three selectable driving modes alter the response of the transmission, gearshift characteristics, steering force and, if available, all-wheel drive system. Sport mode downshifts, transmits more torque to the rear wheels for more dynamic cornering and makes steering heavier. The eco-mode offers relatively conservative settings, preferring higher gears, lower sensitivity of the gas pedal and transferring more power to the front wheels, which helps minimize fuel consumption. And the third mode, Smart mode, erases the border between them.

Can he get off the road?

The variable center differential lock in the Palisade 2020 all-wheel drive system is what controls the amount of power sent to the rear wheels, depending on the traction requirement. Just as it changes for driving modes, it also configures for four different terrain options: road, mud, sand and snow. The degree of locking of the center differential and wheel slippage are adjusted in accordance with the surface under the car so that you continue to move forward.

We managed to find several examples for each of the four terrain options, and for the most part Palisade 2020 drove everywhere without much hassle. With a 20-centimeter clearance, the Palisade 2020 will not perform any major feats, but it should be more than able to cope with the typical snowy or dirt camping roads that most owners will not dare to drive.

Let’s talk about technology

Hyundai’s dedication to technology is impressive. At Palisade 2020, you get seven USB charging ports in the cabin, ensuring that no device will need electrons. Hyundai’s new debut at the Palisade 2020 is Driver Talk (intercom) in the car. It allows the driver to talk with passengers of the second or third row through the speakers of the car. Honda and Toyota have similar systems, so Driver Talk is not a completely new feature, but it can be useful. You access it through a 10.3-inch touch screen infotainment system. There is also a new sleep mode that turns off the rear speakers, allowing you to listen to audio from the front without fear of waking passengers from behind.

Another new feature is what Hyundai calls the “Blind View Monitor,” which works in conjunction with the usual blind spot assistant. Like Honda’s LaneWatch function, a video from the camera of what may be hidden in the blind areas of the Palisade 2020 is displayed on the monitor. But unlike the LaneWatch, the Hyundai system can show video streams from both sides of the car, and not just from the passenger.

When the turn signal is turned on, video from the camera located on the side of the car is displayed in the center of the driver’s 12.3-inch digital dashboard. As a result, the entire adjacent lane is viewed, which provides even greater visibility of what is happening behind. It is also convenient for monitoring how close you are to the curb when parking.

“SmartSense” is a comprehensive set of advanced driving aids that is standard on all Palisade 2020s. It includes frontal collision avoidance, blind spot control, lane keeping assist, automatic high beam, driver warning systems, adaptive cruise control, collision avoidance during rear cross-traffic and the Safe Exit Assist system, which prevents passengers from opening the door if they find an object approaching from behind (for example, another vehicle tomobile).

Price, configuration and start of sales

Hyundai Palisade 2020 model year should be at dealerships in the summer of 2019 (around the same time, Kia Telluride 2020 will appear — one of its main competitors). Five trim levels will be available: SE, SEL, SEL Plus, Limited and Ultimate, all of which will be available with front-wheel or all-wheel drive. Hyundai will announce detailed information on prices and trim levels closer to the start of sales.
In general, we are pleased that the Palisade 2020 will appear on the market. Due to its large size and a large number of technological functions, we expect it to become an attractive choice for buyers of three-row crossovers.
