The Infiniti QX80 has been updated again: now the interior is like the Nissan Armada.

Last year, losing popularity in its key, American market, the Infiniti brand decided to abandon competition with the German premium, return to its roots, stop spending on the development of original models and offer instead improved versions of the Nissan.

The evolution of the Infiniti QX80 large frame SUV is a clear example of the new-old approach.

Infiniti QX80 second-generation SUV debuted in 2010 (then it was still called QX56), and related Nissan Armada appeared on the U.S. market only in 2016 (before that the Armada was offered here in the old body).

Outside America Armada is known as the Nissan Patrol and has a number of cosmetic differences, as well as the Nismo sports version.

The Infiniti QX80 has already had two exterior restyles, in 2014 and 2017, and in 2019 the premium SUV followed the global Patrol with an updated interior with two screens on the center console (previously there was one, the top one).

In 2020, during the planned restyling of the interior was redesigned and the American Nissan Armada: here is the third version of the design of the center console with a widescreen 12.3-inch multimedia screen on top and located under it, but not on the sides of the ducts.

And now the same console «came» in the Infiniti QX80 — this is the main and, in fact, the only update for the premium SUV 2022 model year.

There are no visual differences except logos in the interiors of the Infiniti QX80 and Nissan Armada now, SUVs have a unified electronic stuffing and a single design of microclimate units.

On the dashboard, to the delight of conservative motorists, there are real, not drawn dials speedometer and tachometer, and between them is a color 7-inch screen onboard computer.

Exterior changes in the Infiniti QX80 in 2022 model year will not, the power unit is the same — 5.6-liter petrol atmospheric V8 (405 hp, 560 Nm) paired with a seven-speed hydromechanical «automatic.

Buyers can choose a simplified rear-wheel drive version or a full-fledged all-wheel drive SUV with a downshift transmission in the transfer case.

Since all Infiniti QX80 now assembled in Japan, sooner or later updates to the American version of the machine will appear in our country.

A variant with a two-screen center console has reached us with almost a year’s delay after the premiere in the U.S.

By the way, following the results of the first half of this year, the QX80 has become the most popular Infiniti model, leaving behind a crossover QX50 — sold 471 and 456 units, respectively.

Overall, Infiniti brand sales for the first half of the year in our country amounted to 1,168 units, which is 76% more than in January-June 2020.

And in the U.S., Infiniti’s sales dynamics are negative even against the backdrop of the lockdown-encumbered 2020: from January to June this year it sold 36,937 cars, 11% less than the same period last year.

Demand for Infiniti QX80 decreased by 17% to 7,631 cars, while the leader of segment of large premium SUV — Cadillac Escalade — has sold 20,716 copies (+96%).

Infiniti QX80 has also overtaken Mercedes-Benz GLS (14,042 units, +21%), BMW X7 (11,279 units, +30%) and a newly updated Lincoln Navigator (9,228 units, +40%).

In the class of large SUVs, even if to take into account non-premium models, Infiniti QX80 was the only one that showed negative sales dynamics in the first half of 2021.

Demand for the sister Nissan Armada increased 13% to 14,894 units.
