Kia EV6 2022: Kia’s new electric hatchback.
Two weeks after the preliminary display, the full-fledged debut of the new electric hatchback Kia EV6 2022 took place.

The model is built on the E-GMP platform, which previously formed the basis of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV, which means that in terms of technology, the cars are as close to each other as possible.

The newcomer will be available with several versions of electric motors, rear and all-wheel drive, two traction battery options.

In addition to the basic version, customers will be offered the GT-Line and GT editions, which differ in external design and interior trim.

The assembly of electric cars is planned to be carried out only in South Korea, where orders for the model have already opened.

The cars will appear in showrooms of local dealers in July. Then the «six» will gradually begin expansion into foreign markets — in Europe, for example, the start of sales is scheduled for autumn.

By 2026, the Koreans expect to produce 11 more electric vehicles, which will be sold all over the world.

Body design

The appearance of the Kia EV6 battery hatchback is decided in the new style of Opposites United, playing on the contrast of nature and the creations of mankind.

The connection of the emotional with the rational is carried out with the help of simple lines and clear forms, creating a bold and memorable appearance.

At the front, the signature “tiger nose” has been replaced with a “digital tiger face” formed by the dynamic light pattern of the navigation lights. The width of the car is accentuated by the long air intake cutout at the bottom of the bumper.

In profile, the electric car demonstrates a typical «crossover» silhouette with short overhangs, a large center distance and a streamlined roof dome.

The heavily tilted C-pillars are fitted with a glossy black insert. In addition to the compact spoiler at the top of the tailgate below there is another wing, the edge of which is adorned with an eye-catching garland of tail lights.

With a wheelbase of 2900 mm, the standard 2022 Kia EV6 is 4680 mm long, 1880 mm wide, and 1550 mm high.

The GT-Line and GT versions are 15 mm longer than the regular hatchback, and the G-Ti version is also 5 mm lower.

Technologies and equipment

The salon of the model is composed and equipped in full accordance with the spirit of the times. Atop the horizontal architecture of the front panel are two paired 12.3-inch dash and multimedia screens.

In addition, there is also a head-up display with «augmented reality», which broadcasts navigator prompts and assisting electronics warnings.

Air conditioning and audio are controlled by a block of touch keys and a pair of rotating handles under the center vents.

The equipment of the electric car includes Meridian acoustics with 14 speakers, Active Sound Design system (changes the sound depending on the car speed), Remote Smart Parking Assist (allows you to park the car while driving it from the outside), Highway track autopilot of the second level Driving Assist 2 (provides distance and lane centering).

The interior of the Kia EV6 uses recycled materials.

The hatchback has two trunks. The main rear compartment holds 520 liters as standard, with the backs of the second row folded down — 1300 liters. The front compartment has a volume of 52 liters (rear-wheel drive) or 20 liters (four-wheel drive).

Models EV6 and EV6 GT-Line in the basic version of the Standard Range receive a battery with a capacity of 58 kWh.

With a rear-wheel drive layout, the output of a single electric motor is 170 hp. and 350 Nm, while in the all-wheel drive configuration, the pair of engines produces 235 hp. and 605 Nm.

Long Range versions are equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery.

In this case, rear-wheel drive cars have an output of 228 hp. and 350 Nm, with a full — 325 hp. and 605 Nm. The cruising range of the above modifications varies from 380 to 510 km.

The most powerful Kia EV6 GT comes with 77.4 kWh high-capacity batteries and two electric motors by default.

The front engine develops 218 hp, the rear one — 367 hp. In total, the tandem generates an impressive 585 hp. and 740 Nm.

This thrust allows the hatchback to spurt to «hundreds» in 3.5 seconds and accelerate to a maximum of 260 km / h. At the same time, an imitation of the electronically controlled rear axle differential (electronic-Limited Slip Differential) is available.

On a single charge, the G-Ti can travel up to 400 km.
The energy of the electric car battery is replenished by connecting it to a household outlet or a special DC terminal (voltage 400 or 800 volts).

The charging station provides an increase in mileage of 100 km in 4.5 minutes, and also restores capacity by 80% in 18 minutes.

Thanks to V2L technology, in the future, external devices with a power of up to 3.6 kW can be powered from the on-board network.

Moreover, it is allowed to connect another car to recharge its battery.
Increased range of the hatchback is provided by the braking energy recovery system, which is controlled by buttons on the steering wheel.

The driver is free to choose between six modes — None, 1, 2, 3, i-PEDAL and Auto Mode.

When the i-PEDAL program is activated, the level of recuperation is maximum, and smooth braking is carried out simply by releasing the accelerator pedal.
