Land Rover Defender 2020 — a new version of the legendary British SUV.
The British name Defender is far from new. The concern already produced cars under this name, but later the Defender conveyor stopped. Now, after 3 years, Land Rover decided to give this name a completely new model.


The new Land Rover Defender 2019-2020 model year is positioned as an all-terrain vehicle, so it is not offended by power units.

Land Rover will offer customers four options for power plants:

1. D200 — a two-liter turbodiesel for four cylinders, developing up to 200 hp and 430 Hm;

2. D240 — a similar two-liter turbodiesel boosted to 240 hp and 430 Hm;

3. Under the P300 index hides a gasoline turbocharged gasoline engine. Four cylinders of 2 liters give out 300 hp. and 400 Hm;

4. The top-end version of the P400 will be equipped with a 3-liter six-cylinder petrol unit. Power will be 400 hp. and 550 Hm. Included is a 48-volt starter generator.

According to the dynamic indicators, only the top-end configuration figures were revealed — acceleration to hundreds in 6.4 seconds, the maximum speed — 208 km / h.

The manufacturer promises impressive driving performance. Defender will calmly pass the 0.9 meter water barrier. An independent air suspension with two struts in front and multi-link rear with adjustable clearance will help in this. The adjustment range is from 166 to 291 mm.

On the appearance of Land Rover Defender will have to dwell in more detail. First of all, it is worth noting the most important feature of the novelty — three options for the length of the body, which received indices 90, 110 and 130.

The platform from Discovery was taken as the basis, but as a result we have 90% of original spare parts. Depending on the length of the body, in total with short body kits, the trolley will master steep climbs from 28 to 40 degrees.

Regarding geometry, the Land Rover remained committed to its angular, rude, yet concise forms. The new Defender is another “box” that can withstand a load of 6.5 tons.

On the front, everything is covered with shields as much as possible. A round animal pattern of headlights, a massive grille with the name of the model on top, a short bumper shot with a shockproof part, that’s all that can be said about the front end.

Classical forms are easily seen from the side, a large clearance, large wheels (20-21 inches), massive arches, shockproof thresholds and roughly trimmed feed are visible.
The back has received an ambiguous design. The convenient swing door handle and the spare wheel fixed on the outside are a definite plus.

But the square design of the rear dimensions is rather ambiguous, somewhat “cartoony”, although it looks good in a compartment with square side mirrors. The feed clearance is even more bullied, while the shockproof plastic is in place.

So far, there is information about the dimensions of only the 110th Defender:
length — 4758 mm (without spare wheel);
width — 1996 mm;
height — 1974 mm;
wheelbase — 3022 mm.
It is also known that the 90th will be shorter somewhere around 400 mm.

British quality is not very well known, but it is no worse than the German counterparts. The leather trim of the Land Rover will be offered in swamp green, dark brown and classic black.

The most interesting part, of course, is the torpedo and the center console. By the way, the usual tunnel is not here. The dashboard received a virtual performance, which harmoniously looks with a multimedia screen in the middle of a torpedo.

In fact, in addition to the screen and a visor for tidy, there is nothing else on the panel. The rest fit in the center console, which looks like a neat curb from under the torpedo, where a pair of buttons, twists and a compact transmission lever are located. The control buttons for most of the onboard functions have moved to the multifunction steering wheel and driver’s door card.

Interestingly, the 90th and 110th Defender receive a 5-seater saloon (in the 110th, a 7-seat layout is possible as an option), and the 130th — 7-seater. In this case, it is possible to additionally seat the eighth passenger in a folding chair in front.

Price and sales start date

Starting dates for sales and final prices will depend on the bodies. So, the Land Rover plans to first launch the 110th body on the line, which the British will be able to buy at the beginning of 2020 at a price of 3.6 to 6.4 million rubles, depending on the configuration.

By spring, the 90th body will be ready at a price of 3.2 million rubles. And only by the summer will deliveries of the 130th, the price of which is not specified. All versions of Defender will come to Russia. However, this will not happen until the fall of 2020.
