Maserati Grecale crossover is getting ready for its premiere: new details.

Maserati Grecale crossover premiere has been postponed twice already and now official Maserati Grecale launch is scheduled for Spring 2022.

Journalists edition Autocar drove the pre-production cars and shared some details.

For example, it became known that the base SUV will receive 2.0-liter gasoline turbo-motor with a combined supercharger (turbocharger and an electric supercharger) and a starter-generator.

The total output of such a unit is claimed to be 300 hp and 450 Nm of torque.

At that, previously it was expected that the top versions Grecale (the name is invented in honor of the wind in the Mediterranean) will get a 2.9-liter twin-supercharged V6 from Alfa Romeo, but it turned out not so.

Instead of it, a completely new 3-liter in-house developed Nettuno engine will be under the hood.

This engine develops 630 forces (730 Nm) in the previously presented supercar Maserati MC20, but for a crossover its output will be reduced. It is not specified yet.

It is not excluded that several variants with various degrees of forcing will be offered, and in the long term appearance of completely electric modification is expected.

Both engines are paired with 8-band ZF automatic transmission and all-wheel drive transmission with front axle muff. There is a choice of different driving presets, and one of them provides power only to the rear wheels.

It is known that the base model weighing 1,870 kg climbs a hundred from a place in 5.6 seconds and is able to run up to 240 km/h.

Recall that the car is based on the Giorgio platform, on which the Alfa Giulia and Stelvio are based, while the Maserati will be available not only with a spring suspension (conventional or with adaptive shock absorbers), but also pneumatic with three-chamber air struts.

Wheel rims ranging in diameter from 19 to 21 inches are available. At the moment, the manufacturer has built about 250 prototypes of the Maserati Grecale crossover for testing, which turned out to be not much smaller than the older Levante.

Production of the model will be set up at the Stellantis plant in Cassino, where Alfa’s coplatformers are made.
