In recent years, the Japanese from Mazda are not encouraging. It is not clear what game they are playing. Remember at least the latest statement about the deliberate slowdown of technologies in the field of electrification, do you see then there will be nothing to show and, in general, consumers need to be served dosed.

And now the second piece of news is the restyling of the CX-5 crossover, which is completely zero in terms of innovations in technology.
Nevertheless, Mazda remains a world famous company. So, since the restyling saw the light, the goal was not to attract attention, which the manufacturer does not need at all, but to correct and refine what is already there.

And there are actually a lot of spot corrections, and they will be discussed in particular below.

Technical stuffing

And so, what is so remarkable about the Mazda CX-5 (meaning the model as a whole, not a new restyling). The Japanese are proud that their crossover is the most economical in its class when compared with engine displacement and dynamic performance.

Indeed, not a single mid-size SUV comes to mind, which would have on board a 2-liter naturally aspirated engine with an output of 150 hp, four-wheel drive and an automatic transmission, while fuel consumption was 6.7 liters already in urban areas.

So you can endlessly talk about an incomprehensible brand policy, but they know how to make a technique. Actually, with the announcement of the restyling, the company declares that its engine range is now even more economical (we are talking about the Sky Active X line).

Specific measurements have not yet been given, but the first test drives are not far away (the press release states a saving of 0.5-0.8 liters).

There is nothing more to say about the new product in terms of technology, so let’s briefly recall the main points of its predecessor:

The cart is based on an independent suspension (MacPherson strut front, multi-link rear);
Power steering — electric;
Ventilated disc brakes on the front axle.
The motor range of the Mazda CX-5 2021 consists of two power units. The first was mentioned above. The second has a similar architecture (4 cylinders in a row), but with a volume of more than 2.5 liters.

Power, of course, the same grows to 194 hp. (as well as consumption — 7.4 l.) Transmissions are the same two: 6-range automatic and 6-speed mechanics. Front wheel drive by default. Full is connected by a coupling.

Onboard equipment

There are also adjustments in the list of onboard equipment. In addition to the standard list of passive systems, power accessories and multimedia capabilities, the following are mentioned:

Steering damper;
Pedestrian recognition at night at speeds up to 80 km / h;
New light sensor (works at around 2000 lm);
The ability to shift gears using paddle shifters.
There are also two more new features to mention here. Now the SUV has the ability to simulate a differential lock and a system for deactivating 1 and 4 cylinders (and this is in an in-line «four»).

Body and dimensions

Although the general appearance of the crossover remained unchanged, if we compare the passport data of the new item and its predecessor, several interesting details come to light:

the length was cut by 1 cm;
width increased by 0.5 cm;
clearance increased by 2 cm;
thanks to the use of a new alloy, the body has been reinforced by 15%;
the windscreen pillars were piled up even more;
the roof slope has also increased by a couple of degrees;
the hood received new ribs and a tilt angle;
at the stern there are now updated nameplates showing the engine range.

Additionally, the manufacturer now offers another enamel color — Polymetal Gray Metallic.

The interior architecture also remained unchanged. But there are also enough point changes:

The multimedia touchscreen has increased to 8 inches (previously it was 7);
Added contour LED lighting;
New interface for analog tidy wells;
The luggage compartment has increased by 3 liters.
It is also now possible to order a combined suede and eco-leather interior trim. Plus, an additional layer of sound insulation in the form of a film has now been laid.

In terms of competition, there is also nothing new, the list is still the same: Honda CR-V, Subaru Forester, Kia Sportage and Ford Escape. However, in defense of the CX-5, it’s worth noting that the competitors are not only less economical, but they also don’t offer the same level of equipment as the guys at Mazda do.

Price and start date

The start of sales of the restyling Mazda CX-5 of the 2021 model year is scheduled for August of this year. At least that’s what the European dealers promised.

In Russia, the novelty will not be long in coming either. The SUV will appear on our market in early autumn.
The update did not affect the final price in any way. The cheapest Drive configuration will cost 1.4 million rubles, the premium Supreme — 1.9 million.
