Mazda MX-30 2021 — Mazda electric crossover with swing doors.

The new Mazda MX-30 electric car debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show — the first production car from Mazda to be equipped with an electric power plant.

The new model shares many similarities with the Mazda CX-30 crossover, but uses its own e-Skyactiv architecture, which integrates a lithium-ion battery into the power frame.

The car is driven by a synchronous motor with a power of 143 hp, and the main feature of the «thirty» is the swing doors, like in the RX-8 coupe.

The new electric crossover Mazda MX-30 will be sold not only at home, but also in Europe. You can pre-order the model right now, however, you won’t be able to pick up the car until the second half of the year.

The price of the Mazda MX-30 in the welcome edition of the First Edition, which is distinguished by a rich configuration, is 33,990 euros (about 2.4 million rubles). The regular versions will obviously be cheaper.

Design and layout of doors

Externally, the first electric car Mazda is a classic representative of the Japanese brand. However, the novelty has its own characteristics.

For example, the absence of a traditional internal combustion engine eliminates the need for strong ventilation of the engine compartment, and therefore the model’s radiator grill was made quite small.

At the same time, the bow of the MX-30 body is quite solid, which is usually not typical for electric cars.

The shape of the dome of the roof and stern, as well as the configuration of the fifth door, «thirty» is more like a hatchback.

However, the presence of a powerful plastic body kit along the lower perimeter of the body does not make it doubtful that we are dealing with an SUV.

The wheel arches of the crossover are square, with black lining along the contour of the openings and 18-inch wheels inside (tires 215/55 R18).

And now the fun part is the custom Freestyle Doors rear doors. Actually, there is no need to talk about full-fledged doors here.

The leaves are rather narrow and do not have external handles. Therefore, they open only after the front doors, swinging open at an angle of up to 80 degrees (at the front 82 degrees). The absence of B-pillars provides quite convenient access to the rear row of seats.

The dimensions of the body of the new Mazda MX-30 almost coincide with the dimensions of the CX-30.

Only the height differs — due to the battery built into the power structure of the electric car, it is 30 mm (1570 mm) larger. The other parameters are identical: length — 4395 mm, width — 1795 mm, wheelbase — 2655 mm.

Interior

The salon of the new Mazda is finished with the use of special fabrics from recycled materials (plastic bottles) and cork inserts.

The main feature is the high superstructure of the central tunnel, complemented by a 7-inch touch screen to control the climate control system. A convenient niche for storing small items is located under the console.

The package includes an MZD Connect media center with an 8.8-inch screen, an electric driver’s seat with 8 adjustments, heated front seats and a steering wheel, a head-up display, rain and light sensors, and a rear view camera.

The i-Activsense security complex includes an emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist detection.

In addition to her, the Mazda MX-30 models rely on such electronic assistants as adaptive cruise control, tracking the lane of traffic, an assistant when changing lanes, recognition of road signs, and an automatic valet.

An electric motor is installed on the front axle of the crossover with a return of 143 hp. and 265 Nm, transmitting traction to the wheels through a single-stage gearbox.

A traction battery with a capacity of 35.5 kWh is designed to power the engine, which is capable of providing a mileage of 210 km in the WLTP cycle. The battery hidden under the floor can be charged from AC and DC networks.

The chassis of the electric car, according to the manufacturer, is set for active driving. The front suspension has an independent design with MacPherson struts, and a semi-independent torsion beam is used at the rear.

The novelty is also equipped with the G-Vectoring Control Plus (e-GVC Plus) system, which reduces the burden on the driver by continuously adjusting engine thrust based on vehicle speed, steering angle and centrifugal force.
