Mercedes-AMG SL 2022.

Mercedes-AMG is preparing a novelty: the premiere date of the SL two-door has been announced.

The time has come to say goodbye to the Mercedes-Benz SL and meet the updated AMG SL, as the iconic German roadster of the next generation has been developed by the Go-Fast division of Affalterbach.

The official announcement should be just around the corner, as photographers spotted an almost production-ready prototype near the Nürburgring.

Presentation of the car by the German brand will take place next week. Interior of the sports car has already been declassified, but the appearance of novelty is still kept in secret.

The German company has been producing open-top SL model (the index stands for Super Leicht, which means «super light») since 1954.

Note that over the past decade, the peak year for the model was 2012 — when European dealers sold 3,937 cars.

For comparison, only 885 units were sold in the «pre-crisis» 2019, and at the end of the crisis last year they sold 505 cars, which is almost 43% less than the year before.

Now the company has prepared the next-generation SL, and it will premiere in a matter of days.

As it became known today, the «two-door» seventh generation will debut on October 28.

Despite the fact that there is less than a week before the presentation, Germans still keep the appearance of the next SL a secret.

As we reported earlier, the new generation model will now move completely into the Mercedes-AMG lineup.

The car will have a soft top (the current version — metal) and two rows of seats, though the second row will be suitable for sports bags, because with relative comfort in these places will be able to sit people whose height does not exceed 1.5 meters.

Thus there is practically no place for legs of passengers sitting behind, and backs of seats are almost in vertical position.

We would remind you that Mercedes-AMG earlier showed in details the interior of the new SL called «hyperanalog» (hyperanalog).

In the cabin you can see round ventilation deflectors — four of these «turbines» are located on the front panel.

In addition, a virtual «dashboard» with a diagonal of 12.3 inches, visually as if recessed into a niche.

Presumably, in this way the company decided to make so that when driving with an open top was visible display, but not the glare on it.

The touchscreen of infotainment system MBUX (its diagonal is 11.9 inches) was also protected from the problem of glare.

The system works in such a way that it changes the angle, and does so automatically: a separate electric drive is responsible for ensuring that the touchscreen is in a more upright position when the roof of the new SL, and when the driver raises the soft top, the display itself «tilts» in the side of the front panel.

Mercedes-AMG SL seventh generation will be lighter compared to its predecessor (weight of the current version SL 63 AMG DSG — 1845 kg).

The new two-door will be equipped with AMG 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system, it is also known that the base version will be powered by a four-cylinder engine.

No official information about the «stuffing» is available yet. According to preliminary data, the model can be equipped with a hybrid power plant based on a two-liter turbocharged engine, working in tandem with an electric motor.

It is expected that the V8 engine will remain in the range, and the top will be rechargeable hybrid, the total capacity of which may exceed 840 hp.

The equipment list for the next-generation SL will include a projection display, 64-color contour lighting, and a choice of all-leather upholstery (including two-color versions) or combined leather and microfiber upholstery with contrast stitching.
