The Project Maybach off-road show car: a joint project between Mercedes and the late Virgil Abloh.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the Project Maybach electric show car, the appearance of which was designed by Virgil Ablo, who passed away from cancer a few days ago.

Thus, Germans decided to commemorate the famous American designer who was the founder of Off-White label and the art director of menswear of Louis Vuitton.

Note that not only Ablo, but also Gorden Wagener, the chief designer of Daimler, worked on the appearance of Project Maybach.

The project was created from scratch and the authors were given full freedom of action.

The captured on the photo concept is the six-meter off-road coupe, which front part reminds something of Rolls-Royce cars.

In many respects, such similarity is promoted by a massive radiator grill.

From the side, a spectacular two-door attracts attention with a long hood and interior displaced to the rear, which makes it similar to the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept.

In turn, its stumped stern is notable for the presence of round retro lights.

For creation of off-road entourage in this case are responsible additional lighting, protective plates in front and rear, large wheels with «chiseled» tires, enlarged arches on bolts, as well as the developed external safety cage, which can also be used as a luggage compartment.

Despite its solid dimensions, the interior of the Project Maybach is two-seater. Curiously, the seats installed in the cabin fold horizontally (as in Italian supercars of the 1970s).

And there is a real axe, placed in a special compartment to the left of the driver.

Information about the technical «stuffing» of the electric show car is not disclosed, while under the transparent hood of the car the developers have placed several solar panels.

According to the idea, they are able to increase the range by several kilometers in clear weather.

Mercedes said it plans to exhibit the unusual concept at the Rubella Museum (Miami, USA) giving local design students an opportunity to see the show car live.

In fact, the Project Maybach’s appearance is a credit not only to Virgil Ablo, but also to Daimler’s chief designer Gorden Wagener.

The Maybach has never been so provocative. The 6-meter show car is an off-road two-seat electric coupe with classical proportions, with a long hood and interior displaced towards the rear, like in the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 concept car.

At the front, one can guess the features of Rolls-Royce and Hongqi. A pair of round headlights adorn the truncated stern in retro style.

Other features include front and rear metal sheeting, eight LED spotlights, bolt-on wheel arch extenders, and an outer safety cage that also serves as a luggage compartment.

Under the transparent hood are solar panels, which, in theory, will give some extra mileage.

Seats in the style of Italian supercars of the 1970s fold horizontally. Next to the driver is an axe. At the end of the front panel there is a removable drawer.

Breaking the rules was always in the spirit of Ablo. The founder of the Off-White label and the artistic director of the menswear direction of Louis Vuitton fashion house even twisted the Mercedes-Benz G-Class, turning the iconic SUV into an art object.

His Project Geländewagen is both a sculpture and a racing car, devoid of any external glitz, with a minimalist interior and the steering wheel from the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar.
