Roadsters will be produced under the MG brand again.

The British brand MG which since 2006 belongs to the Chinese concern SAIC, will soon celebrate its centennial.

The first cars Morris, finalized by the firm Morris Garage (MG) from Oxford, appeared in 1923, and in 1924 the MG brand was officially registered.

The centennial of the brand the current owners intend to celebrate in a big way.

According to the plan, by 2024 MG will be present in 100 markets around the world, with sales reaching one million cars a year.

For example last year 456 thousand cars were sold in the Chinese market (53% growth), almost 53 thousand in Europe (threefold growth) and 40 thousand in India (plus 43%).

At this rate, the achievement of the coveted million looks quite realistic, but in addition a significant expansion of the model range is planned.

There will be new youth models of Cyber series. Basically it will be crossovers and passenger cars with bright design, and the first model will see the light in the next few months.

And in addition MG brand will return to its historical niche of a manufacturer of small and inexpensive roadsters.

According to Autocar magazine, the decision to produce a new sports car has already been made and it will be a development of last year’s MG Cyberster concept (pictured).

It will be a compact electric roadster with retro design and rear-wheel drive.

Last year it was declared a run up to 800 km on a single charge and acceleration to 100 km/h in three seconds, but parameters of the serial automobile will be more modest, because the Cyberster is conceived relatively accessible.

The technology, of course, will be Chinese, but the team of the studio SAIC Advanced Design Centre in London is working on the appearance.

MG produced roadsters from 1928 to 1980 (with a break during World War II), then returned to such cars in 1992, and the last MG TF roadster was released in 2011.

Since then, the lineup includes only cars and crossovers, although in some markets under the MG brand are sold badge-engineered SUVs and pickups from SAIC.
