Mitsubishi Airtrek serial crossover: with the branded «X», but technology from a Chinese donor.

The electric crossover of the Japanese brand was presented today in China within the limits of the automobile exhibition in Guangzhou.

The name Airtrek may seem familiar to many people: it used to be a Mitsubishi Outlander crossover of the first generation in some markets, including home one.

Now it was decided to give the name to another model — its role will be played by a new electric Parkett, which the company announced back in June of this year.

As we reported earlier, this SUV was not developed from scratch: it is based on the crossover of Chinese concern GAC.

Developed by GAC Mitsubishi «electric crossover» Airtrek is based on the pre-reform Aion V, note the debut in 2020 «Chinese» has already had time to update.

The «twins» have many external differences (besides logos): thus, the Airtrek has a stub in place of the traditional grille, made in the form of horizontal silver wide stripes with recesses, as well as decorative inserts of similar color, creating a recognizable branded «X-face».

Moreover, the new crossover Japanese brand is equipped with carved headlights, which is supported by the design of «flared» taillights.

And the door handles are flush, as at the «celestial» donor.

The length of Airtrek is stretched to 4630 mm (the Aion V has 4586 mm), and other dimensions of the models are identical: width is 1920 mm, height is 1728 mm, distance between axles is 2830 mm.

The interiors of crossovers are also noticeably different. Unlike the Aion V with a big uniform board, Mitsubishi Airtrek has two separate displays: one fulfills a role of virtual «dashboard» (it is under a visor), the second represents the touch screen of multimedia system.

Besides, the Japanese brand has differently executed front panel, a steering wheel (three-spoke) and the «two-storey» central tunnel is designed in another way.

Mitsubishi Airtrek is based on GEP (GAC Electric Platform), it has borrowed technique without any changes from the pre-reform «donor».

So, the «green» crossover is equipped with the same single 184-horsepower electric motor, which is located on the front axle.

Its maximum torque is 350 Nm. Let’s note, the updated «Chinese» named Aion V Plus, now is presented in versions which efficiency is equal to 224 and 272 hp.

Under the floor of the Airtrek, there is the traction battery with capacity of 70 kW*h.

According to the CLTC cycle used in China, this provides the model with a range of 520 km on a single charge.

By the way, the top version of the «freshened» Aion V has a battery capacity of about 96 kWh and range — up to 700 km.

Production of the electric Mitsubishi Airtrek will be set up in China, on facilities of GAC.

Sales of the model, designed for Chinese market, will start in spring next year.

The starting price of the novelty is 233,800 yuan, which is equivalent to about 2.69 million rubles at the current exchange rate.
