Dodge has declassified the crossover Hornet: it got its equipment from the «twin» Alfa Romeo Tonale.

The American brand has revealed its new Parkett, which will be produced at the plant in Italy.

Starting price tag of this SUV will not exceed 30 thousand dollars.

Dodge brand, which sales figures in the U.S. have been declining for three years in a row, belongs to auto giant Stellantis.

The brand is facing the task to improve performance, it is expected that the new compact crossover will help him in this including.

Rumors about its development appeared in the summer of 2021 and its name — Hornet became known then. Now the company has officially declassified its parkette.

Dodge Hornet is the «twin» of Alfa Romeo Tonale (Italian brand also belongs to Stellantis), both cars are based on Fiat’s FCA Small Wide platform.

Note, Dodge has already used the name Hornet before: this way stood out certain equipment models of the brand, moreover, in 2006, a concept car with the appropriate name was presented (the project has remained at the level of show car).

The novelty Dodge differs from the «donor» by the exterior design.

Hornet has air ducts in a hood, grille is made in the form of a small grid and slits, which are located between the headlights, and drawing of headlights and rear lights are made differently — instead of arcs it is possible to see even LED strips.

The crossover also has its own front bumper with integrated air intakes and other wheel disks.

In the basic version their size is 17 inches, in the hybrid modification — 18 inches. 20-inch wheels are available as an option (included in the Track Pack).

Interior of Hornet also borrowed a lot from Tonale. Infotainment system, in fact, is the same; it is called Uconnect 5. The diagonal of the touchscreen, located in the center of the front panel, is 10.25 inches.

The car also has a virtual «dashboard» with a diagonal of 12.3 inches.

Button to start the engine moved from the steering wheel to the center console, also crossover Dodge has pentagonal air deflectors (instead of round, as in the Italian relative).

The basic version of the novelty has seats trimmed in alcantara, with leather interior offered as an option.

The engine is offered in a set with a nine-speed «automatic» ZF; the crossover has all-wheel drive with a clutch on the rear axle.

Also the model has a rechargeable hybrid Hornet R/T: the company called it the first electrified car Dodge.

A 1.3-liter GSE turbo four with 6ACP handles the front wheels’ motion; a separate 122-horsepower electric motor drives the rear wheels.

The total power of this hybrid unit equals 289 hp (in Tonale — 275 hp) and torque — 519 Nm.

The total capacity of traction battery units in the hybrid Dodge Hornet is 15.5 kWh.

They are located in the center tunnel and under the rear sofa. The electric-only range is rated at 48 km (according to the EPA cycle).

The crossover also has a PowerShot mode. It assumes that the electric motor for 15 seconds can give out additional 25 hp.

Then acceleration from a place to 97 km/h takes 6,1 seconds. Let’s note, the hybrid has Brembo brakes with four-piston mechanisms in front.

Production of Dodge Hornet will be set up at the factory Stellantis in Italy (Alfa Romeo Tonale leaves the same assembly line).

In the U.S. market the base version of the model will appear in December of this year, and recharged hybrid will have to wait until spring of 2023.

The company noted that the starting price tag of Hornet will not exceed 30 thousand dollars.
