Nissan Pathfinder 2022: new body and automatic transmission.
In the United States, the presentation of the 2021-2022 Nissan Pathfinder crossover took place. The fifth generation model received a new body design, an improved interior with advanced multimedia capabilities, and a set of modern assistance systems.

Also, the new product was assigned a 9-speed automatic transmission to replace the previous variator, although the power unit has not changed.

The upgraded Pathfinder will go on sale in the US in the summer of 2021. Buyers will be offered four trim levels (S, SV, SL and Platinum) and two optional equipment packages (SV Premium and SL Premium). Prices will be announced closer to the start of sales.

Well, now, some important information for us. The «fifth» Nissan Pathfinder will arrive in Russia, that is, the crossover will return to our market four years after leaving. Below we will describe in detail how the new model can attract customers.

The aft part of the crossover has changed no less than the front. There are new narrow lights, another tailgate with a large “Pathfinder” lettering in dark chrome, a redesigned bumper with a recess for the registration number.

The C-pillars create a floating effect and also allow for a two-tone body paint (a first for Pathfinder). A total of 14 color schemes have been developed, including five new combinations with a contrasting roof.

The dimensions of the model have changed slightly. The length decreased from 5042 to 5004 mm, while the width and height grew slightly (to 1979 and 1778 mm, respectively).

The wheelbase remains the same — 2900 mm. 18-inch wheels are standard for the new items, and 20-inch wheels are available in older versions.

Interior and equipment

The interior of the crossover has undergone a major overhaul. The front panel acquired a different configuration, the central tunnel became two-tier — with an impressive lower compartment. In expensive trim levels, the new Pathfinder boasts advanced electronic equipment.

There is a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 9-inch multimedia screen and a 10.8-inch head-up display. The simpler versions rely on a 7-inch tidy and an 8-inch media center screen.

For infotainment systems, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto protocols is announced, and wireless Apple CarPlay is optionally offered.

The list of vehicle equipment also includes three-zone climate control, ventilation for the front and heated rear seats, an electric driver’s seat with 10 settings, Nissan Door-to-Door navigation, wireless smartphone charging, contoured interior lighting, Bose Premium Audio acoustics with 13- y speakers, high-resolution all-round cameras.

The manufacturer notes the improvement in the quality of sound insulation and used finishing materials. Along with the base fabric, artificial and natural leather are used for the upholstery.

Among other things, the new Pathfinder was given the latest version of the Nissan Safety Shield 360. It includes automatic braking with pedestrian detection, cross-traffic tracking, keeping the traffic lane, monitoring «blind» zones, automatic switching of headlights.

The cherry on the cake is a ProPilot assistant who knows how to independently drive not only on an empty highway, but also on busy roads. Passive safety is provided by ten airbags, including the central one between the front seats.

The rear of the crossover has received a new layout. The third row has now been made three-seater, so that the maximum car is able to carry eight people. If desired, you can order separate second-row seats, reducing the maximum number of passengers to seven.

The EZ FLEX mechanism allows one movement to free the passage to the gallery from both the driver’s and the passenger’s side. The rear seat backrests fold in a 40:60 ratio, increasing the cargo area from the base 470 liters to 1,274 liters (SAE standard).

Specifications of Nissan Pathfinder 2021

The Pathfinder’s engine remains the same — it’s a V6 3.5 unit with 288 hp. and 351 Nm. However, the gearbox is different: instead of the variator, a classic 9-speed «automatic» with a joystick without mechanical connection is installed.

Choice of front or full Intelligent 4WD drive. Independent suspension — MacPherson struts in front and multi-link in the rear.

The Terrain Mode Selector provides seven driving modes Standard, Sport, Eco, Snow, Sand, Mud / Rut and Tow. The last preset increases the convenience of towing a trailer, the weight of which should not exceed 2720 kg.
