Nissan Qashqai e POWER 2023. The new Nissan Qashqai has gained the e-Power version.

Presented a year ago Qashqai third generation will be the first Nissan model in Europe, which is offered with a proprietary hybrid system e-Power.

The company has been using such a power plant since 2016, the firstborn being the Nissan Note.

Now cars in e-Power version are produced in Japan, China and Thailand, and now Europe will be connected, because the production of Qashqai is engaged in the plant in English Sunderland.

The e-Power system is a sequential hybrid. Such Nissan Qashqai is set in motion exclusively by the electric motor: it is installed on a place of a transmission and rotates front wheels.

The peak output is 188 hp and 330 Nm, that is as a «civilian» 1.8-2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine.

Control of traction is purely «electric car» — with instant response to an accelerator pedal.

The e-Pedal mode is provided, in which acceleration and braking control is entrusted only to the accelerator pedal.

Regenerative deceleration of up to 0.2g is carried out up to a speed of about 5 km/h (with brake lights on), after which the standard brakes are activated.

Also under the hood is a three-cylinder 1.5 VC-Turbo engine with variable compression ratio.

This is an analogue of the two-liter turbo four, which has been put on Infiniti cars for four years, only without one cylinder.

The 1.5 liter engine produces 156 hp, but it is not connected to wheels or accelerator pedal.

It is controlled by electronics, starting it only when necessary.

If you need only to recharge the traction battery, the engine runs in the most economical mode at low speeds with a high compression ratio (up to 14:1).

If you need to power not only the battery, but also the traction motor, the electronics reduces the compression ratio (up to 8:1) and increases the output of the gasoline engine.

Alas, capacity of traction battery is not named yet, and dynamic characteristics of hybrid Kashkaia are not announced.

Declared only the average fuel consumption — 5.3 l/100 km. At the same time regular petrol Qashqai with turbocharged 1.3 (158 hp) and a variator consumes 5.5 liters/100 km on the cycle WLTP.

The hybrid Qashqai has no possibility to recharge the battery from a socket.

Outside, the Nissan Qashqai e-Power differs from its purely gasoline counterparts only nameplates and modified the grille: a black horizontal stripe appeared in its upper part.

All specs and price will be published closer to the start of sales which is scheduled for the end of summer in Europe. It’s clear that the e-Power version will be the most expensive in the range.

By the way, the more compact Nissan Juke became a hybrid recently, but it is equipped with a completely different power plant.
