Opel Insignia 2020 — Will there be a new body in Russia?
The new body of the Opel Insignia 2020 by PSA engineers, which will receive a different platform, should appear already by the beginning of 2021.

The corresponding developments are proceeding at an accelerated pace, and in order to maintain interest in the 2020 model year, the new owners carried out a small restyling, slightly modifying the exterior and modernizing the media system.

More information about the work done will most likely be obtained in January 2020, when the updated version will be officially presented at the Brussels Motor Show.

After the Opel brand came under the control of the French Groupe PSA in 2017, it was prepared for an early renewal of the model range, as the former owner of the brand, General Motors, continued to own the design rights for all its developments.

The Opel Insignia 2020, like the Astra, did not make it to the “liquidated” list, but since it is still based on a modular platform created by GM specialists, this car is prohibited from appearing in new markets.

In 2017, the model changed a generation, and the newly-minted Insignia B has noticeably increased in size compared to the Insignia A:

wheelbase — 2829 mm. (+92 mm.);
length — 4897 mm. (+67 mm.);
width — 1863 mm. (+7 mm.);
height — 1455 mm. (-43 mm.)

The model is based on the modular platform E2XX (Epsilon), the available body options are a five-door hatchback and a station wagon. In foreign markets, Opel Insignia 2020 can be found under other names: Vauxhall Insignia, Buick Regal, Holden Commodore.

Exterior

Surprisingly, in the forms of the Opel Insignia 2020 model year continues to guess the car, which was released in November 2008.

The model is modest 11 years old, and all this time when it demonstrates a completely modern look with a smoothly sloping roof, a streamlined body and a predatory front end, which today is decorated with stylish matrix LED headlights.

By the way, as a result of restyling, the number of diodes in each of them increased from 16 to 84. The facelift also affected the radiator grille and the front bumper, which received new fog lamp housings.

At the rear of the Opel Insignia 2020, the changes were limited to the installation of new trapezoidal exhaust pipes, which were previously round.

Salon

The large wheelbase gives the D-Class a spacious interior, and its architecture has many things in common with the new Astra 2020.

Now, instead of a scattering of physical buttons, the driver is greeted by a center console deployed to him, where the display of the new generation IntelliLink multimedia system dominates.

Restyling gave her a different interface and added wireless charging for gadgets.
The pride of the new Opel Insignia 2020 was the seats, which were created through the mediation of the owners of more expensive cars of the same class.

The optional heated seat system and adaptive cruise control are also designed to add comfort. Other options include a head-up display, all-round cameras (plus a new reversing camera) and heated windshield.

Technical stuffing

The Opel Insignia 2020 model year in the restyled version will no longer receive the 2.0-liter 260-horsepower petrol unit, which was previously installed on the all-wheel drive modification in the form of a liftback called the Grand Sport.

But the remaining less powerful motors remained in service:

1.5, turbo petrol, 140 HP from.;
1.5, turbo petrol, 165 HP from.;
1.6, turbodiesel, 110 HP from.;
1.6, turbodiesel, 136 HP from.;
2.0, turbodiesel, 170 HP from.

Also, the new model Opel Insignia 2020 has retained three types of transmission: 6-speed «mechanics», as well as 6- and 8-band «automatic».

Technically, the new Insignia continues to be the closest relative of the American Chevrolet Malibu sedan, based on the same platform with a multi-link rear suspension.

For Opel, its settings have been changed, and adaptive FlexRide dampers have been added to the list of options.

When will it be released in Russia?

Unfortunately, Russia is on the list of new markets for the brand that recently changed ownership, so we definitely won’t see a restyled version of the 2020 Opel Insignia.

At the same time, in a year, a model may come to us, on which the new owners of Opel, the French, are working hard right now.
