Opel is preparing a new generation Insignia.
German firm Opel plans to introduce the third generation of the Insignia in 2024.

It is no longer supposed to be a D-class car as before: it will take its niche in the C-segment, will have an elegant and sporty appearance.

The change in class could lead to a drastic reduction in the car’s price, making it a serious competitor to the Toyota Camry.

Based on the company’s claims, an independent designer created renderings of the 2024 Opel Insignia, which he shared with us.

The future model will continue to rely on the format of the current Grand Sport-style version. The stylish sedan will get a sporty roof line with a pronounced drop after the rear pillar.

This format is very similar to the Peugeot 508. The exterior will be different due to the new grille in the signature Opel Visor style and the intricate design of the headlights

Inside, the interior is also expected to be finished in a modern style. Its main component will be taken to a new level Pure Panel concept with a digital dashboard and large screens.

If the company aims to put the Insignia at the top of the lineup, the novelty should offer the buyer a little more interior space.

That’s why the new generation of the car will be built on the EMP2 platform. It is worth mentioning that soon another sedan — Citroen C5 will debut on this «bogie».

It is expected that the German brand will send the third generation model to the European market in 2024.

The Opel brand brought the current second-generation Insignia to market in 2017. However, the declining sales of the model did not help: in the first full year, dealers in Europe sold 67,424 cars (-6.8%). In 2019, customers bought only 45,925 cars (-32%) in this market.

In early 2020, the model was updated, but even that did not save the Insignia from the decline in demand in January-November last «covid» year, when it sold a circulation of only 19,237 copies, 2.2 times less than the year before.

Despite the very weak performance, German Opel (as well as its British «brother» Vauxhall) is developing a third generation Insignia.

The novelty is expected to appear in 2024. So far, there is no official information about the future sedan. Probably it will be a «four-door», but with a more sporty appearance compared to the current version.

By the way, now the Insignia on the Old World market is presented in liftback and station wagon bodies.

So far it is far away from the release of the model and even before the first teasers, which means that the artists have the opportunity to dream about the appearance of the third-generation Opel Insignia.

It was used by a designer of a Spanish edition motor.es. Judging by his rendering, the four-door will have a new design of the «front» (Vizor — is the calling card of the next novelties of the brand), which suggests that the glossy grille is visually connected with the headlights.

In addition, the car is likely to get a more sloping roof (like the Peugeot 508) and other lights.

We expect the «third» Insignia will be based on the EMP2 platform of the last generation (this «engine» will debut on the new Citroën C5). Presumably the new model will be longer than its predecessor, but how much longer is not reported.

There will probably be more space for the driver and passengers in the cabin.

According to preliminary data the engine lineup of the next Opel Insignia will include gasoline and diesel engines including 1.5 liter four-cylinder variants.

A couple of plug-in hybrid versions are also expected. All variants will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, and only the most powerful hybrid will get all-wheel drive.

We shall remind that the actual Insignia in Europe is offered with petrol engines of 1.4 and 2.0 liters with 145 (236 Nm) and 200 hp (350 Nm), respectively. (350 Nm), respectively, and also with a 1.5-liter diesel engine rated at 122 hp. (300 Nm).

In turn, the current «charged» version GSi has all-wheel drive and is equipped with a 230-horsepower turbocharged 2.0 liter gasoline engine (350 Nm) with a system of switching off two cylinders at low loads.

The base petrol and diesel engines are paired with a six-speed «manual», the more powerful petrol engines are paired with a nine-speed «automatic».

Last week we also showed the first image of another Opel brand car: it is expected that the «freshened up» Grandland parketta will go on sale in the summer of 2022.

In the course of the update, it will not only get a different look, but will also lose the «X» in the name.
